He pulled out because he wants to devote time to his religion, its his choice, deal with it.

Subsequently, I wonder how many of us label Non-Muslims as "RELIGIOUS SNOBBERS" when they kiss the cross after scoring a goal or join hands to thank Bhagwan or guru nanak (or whoever) on some achievement in the games? I fail to understand why sajda is treated differently?
Moe than the Sajda, its his longish "Beard" and his "outfit" when travelling with the team that tells me the guy is seeking attention. That's it.
In a team full of Muslims - he obviously stands out. So are the other folks lesser Muslims.

Sure...not my problem and really least of my worries.
Just gave my "personal" opinion. Take it or piss on it.
I am fully aware. Back in the days in Delhi , I have accompanied Muslim friends to their early morning eats during Ramadan .
But you tell me this :
(1) Have there been any other player who has asked to be excused during Ramadan. This is not the first time , I am sure, Pak is having to play a series during Ramadan.
Just because other people don't want to follow the religious tasks (which is their personal choice), does that mean if someone who actually wants to, we should label him as a show off?
(2) If I am not mistaken (and I could very well be) -- last year's Twenty20 World Cup was played during Ramadan. If memory serves, Mohd Yousuf was upset over his ommision from the team at that time - so much so that he decided to join the ICL. So what has changed in this year's Ramadan ?
I guess, he was comfortable with playing a 3 hour cricket match and fulfilling his religious duties at the same time. Performing these duties while playing a 50 over game probably is difficult for him.

Do you know why Yousuf or several other muslims have long beards? I think you don't know the reason otherwise you would have never said it.

I am well aware of your personal opinions and biases.
So you basically think I am a moron who does not know the significance of “beard” in Islam.
So be it. As a matter of fact I barely know enough about my own religion.
Listen…my point of reference (as far as Mohd Yousuf’s conduct goes) is the other 10 “Muslim” players in the Pakistani side and 100 other “Muslim” players who preceded Mohd Yousuf in the Pakistani side. Mohd Yousuf clearly stands out in his behavior.
To tell you a fact, Mohd Yousuf typefies all that is wrong with Pak Cricket. Pak players seem to overly complicate their Cricket career — why can’t they just play the damn game instead of indulging in ego trips, religious one-upmanship, infighting, politics etc (…and not to forget dope).
Sreesanth chants mantra and prays to God at the top of his bowling run-up and people call him an idiot for that (which he is)…while Mohd Yousuf is so holy and pious.
Play the damn ‘Cricket’…that’s all.
…and please don’t turn up at a Cricket press conference in this garb: http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/image/312772.html
Now only If someone said that to Mr. Gandhi back in the day, it certainly would have drove a few hindutva’s through the covers.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
^Let uz chat jee....Mohd Yousuf is an "International Cricketer" (unlike Gandhijee) and he needs to dress like one in Cricket related functions. That's all.
btw, I am not really as agitated by Mohd Yousuf's antics as people might think from my above posts. I actually love Pak cricket for the "wholesome entertainment" it provides.
Its just that I get pissed when I see how easily people start to respect a person who over-indulges in "ritualized" religion as unquestionably profound and great. This is true in other religions also , not just Islam.
Play the damn 'Cricket'....that's all.
could have said alot in your above post but then read this line and I guess a better response for you is,
Just watch the damn Cricket as long as it is being played in the manner it should be played and that's all.
This goes for all of us who from time to time pin point at the personal life style of players who give their level best on the field.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
chullo g M. Hafeez is back... wurr gaey !
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
Some1 I used to think that your replies are very logical till I read your views about Yusuf in this thread.
DON'T JUDGE anyone's intentions. You haven't opened his heart and soul to see the truth, so don't base your statement on mere assumptions about some1's PERSONAL LIFE!!!
When you point one finger at anyone remember that your 4 fingers are pointing at yourself. You don't have the facts, neither do I, so let us remain quiet instead of calling anyone a SHOW OFF in terms of religion or any other reason. He never claimed he is better muslim than anyone. He never said his way of practicing is better than anyone else. He is just practicing his religion the way he feels comfortable JUST like everyone else (including the game)
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
I think he is in a dilemma. Cricket is his profession - way of halal earnings. I think he considers it "lahv o lahab". He does not consider it his profession. Do other fasting muslims give up their work during Ramadan?
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
Yes indeed! Holy month of Ramadan is coming and give a break to all our working force! Yes all our farmers should stay in mosques and let the the crops ruin!
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
He should be replaced by Asim Kamal - a fine fine test batsman.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
And suddenly Yousuf's personal life is everyone's business? That is his personal view and he has every right to do what he feels is right. Haterz can do what they do the best, hate.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
Thanks for saying the fact the way it is Some1.I liked the word "RELIGIOUS SNOBBERY". Boy...I have faced so many of these in my life. More in USA than India.
Frankly speaking if he is really so much Relegious then he should not be fighting court cases to get back into IPL which is flooding with the Wine/Beer money.
He is really busy gathering some brownie points and looking at the post here,it seems liek it does work.

Here is the problem dude. Most of the people who are defending yoyo here would be making fun of players from other religion if they did the similar things.
And those who are passing comment on Yoyo would be doing same if the players from their relegion did the similar thing.
I hope you get the message.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
^ Brother let us first give respect to other people by calling them with their original name no matter who he is, unless he is our childhood friend and doesn't mind us calling him with that name.
Secondly, everyone has his own priorities in life. A lot of English players intentionally withdraw from a series because of many family reasons. Birth of a child, father in law ill....etc. I think Micheal Clarke and Stephen Flemming are the recent examples.
Mohammad Yousuf might have some family problems as well. Did he announced this publicly that he is withdrawing because of religious practice in Ramadan. Even if he did, it is his personal matter. He has the right to take vacations on the basis of his priorities in life LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. Let us look into our own self first before jumping to negative assumptions about others without any proof or evidence. No one among us have an evidence of the exact reasons why he was compelled to withdraw. So let us all remain positive and not blame anyone for something we ourselves are not sure of.
Re: Yousuf pulls out of Champions Trophy, Hafeez likely replacement...
Quick question: Is it okay for a player to skip a tournament if someone's family member/friend is getting married?
