Yousuf, Razzaq might lose central contracts too!
KARACHI: Star batsman Mohammad Yousuf and seasoned all-rounder Abdul Razzaq are yet to sign central contracts and will be erased by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from the list of contracted players if failed to ink the contracts today, a top Board official warned on Thursday.
Shafqat Naghmi, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, told ‘The News’ that 16 of the 20 players offered central contracts by the Board have already signed the contracts while two of the remaining four have informed the Board that they have accepted the terms and conditions.
“Younis Khan and Danish Kaneria, who are playing county cricket in England, have accepted the terms and conditions and would be signing the contracts tomorrow,” said Naghmi. “But we have received no word from Yousuf or Razzaq about the contracts,” he added.
Yousuf and Razzaq were overlooked by Pakistan while naming a 15-man squad for the Twenty20 World Cup earlier this week which is why there have been strong speculations that the duo may not sign the contracts as a mark of protest.
Naghmi said that no player is under pressure to sign the contracts. “As far as the contracts are concerned, the final decision is that of the player involved,” he said.
But Naghmi warned that any player failing to sign the contract by today will lose the opportunity to earn what is a substantial annual salary.
“Our policy is very clear,” he said. “We offered the contracts to 20 players on August 4 and gave them six days to sign them. Any player who fails to do that would be removed from the list,” he explained.
While Yousuf is nowhere to be found, Razzaq made his intentions clear by criticising selectors over the T20 snub.
Naghmi, however, refrained from commenting on Razzaq’s outburst in a television programme.
Speculations are rife in the national cricket circles that Razzaq might opt against singing a central contract with the Board to play in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).
*I was just watching Razzak’s interview on GEO and the guy was understandbly pissed off. *
According to him no one including Inzi has ever utilized him properly. 5-6 years ago he thought that there was no politics in Pakistan cricket however he was wrong. He said that they (PCB) think that they can call him back whenever they want however they are wrong as he is now going to return only when he would want to.
