Yousuf and Razzaq may lose central contracts if failed to sign today

Yousuf, Razzaq might lose central contracts too!

KARACHI: Star batsman Mohammad Yousuf and seasoned all-rounder Abdul Razzaq are yet to sign central contracts and will be erased by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from the list of contracted players if failed to ink the contracts today, a top Board official warned on Thursday.

Shafqat Naghmi, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, told ‘The News’ that 16 of the 20 players offered central contracts by the Board have already signed the contracts while two of the remaining four have informed the Board that they have accepted the terms and conditions.

“Younis Khan and Danish Kaneria, who are playing county cricket in England, have accepted the terms and conditions and would be signing the contracts tomorrow,” said Naghmi. “But we have received no word from Yousuf or Razzaq about the contracts,” he added.

Yousuf and Razzaq were overlooked by Pakistan while naming a 15-man squad for the Twenty20 World Cup earlier this week which is why there have been strong speculations that the duo may not sign the contracts as a mark of protest.

Naghmi said that no player is under pressure to sign the contracts. “As far as the contracts are concerned, the final decision is that of the player involved,” he said.

But Naghmi warned that any player failing to sign the contract by today will lose the opportunity to earn what is a substantial annual salary.

“Our policy is very clear,” he said. “We offered the contracts to 20 players on August 4 and gave them six days to sign them. Any player who fails to do that would be removed from the list,” he explained.

While Yousuf is nowhere to be found, Razzaq made his intentions clear by criticising selectors over the T20 snub.

Naghmi, however, refrained from commenting on Razzaq’s outburst in a television programme.

Speculations are rife in the national cricket circles that Razzaq might opt against singing a central contract with the Board to play in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

*I was just watching Razzak’s interview on GEO and the guy was understandbly pissed off. *

According to him no one including Inzi has ever utilized him properly. 5-6 years ago he thought that there was no politics in Pakistan cricket however he was wrong. He said that they (PCB) think that they can call him back whenever they want however they are wrong as he is now going to return only when he would want to.

Re: Yousuf and Razzaq may lose central contracts if failed to sign today

^ Razzaq needs to grow up. Im sick of these Pakistani players and their ego's. Look at his performence from 2006 onwards. From a career average of almost 30 he's been averaging under 19 and with the bowl he is averaging nearly 45 runs per wicket. Its been his "Inzi bhai" who has utilized him for most of these games.

Maybe he just should have said Inzi bhai wouldnt dare drop him and boot him from the team when he should have been. He needs to improve his game and come back into the team. We have youngters like Arafat, and Alam, and Mansoor Amjed ready to take over if this idiot is gonna keep taking his place for granted.

For god sakes, the guy didn't even score in the practise games where the likes of Farhat, and Hafeez and even to some extent Akmal scored decent runs...and he wants to be in the team? If he's gonna have this attitude, then he can go join the ICL and kiss his Pakistani career goodbye. I don't care how good of a player you are...with this attitude u deserve to get no where in life.

Re: Yousuf and Razzaq may lose central contracts if failed to sign today

but yaaasir, there is a always a nice and decent way to provide exit to players...you do not have to humiliate them...plus razaq can still play a major role in 20-20 world cup.....

Re: Yousuf and Razzaq may lose central contracts if failed to sign today

Yaar Phoenixdesi bhai...how nice do they have to be? They are not saying its the end of their careers. Especially for Yousuf. He is a must for ODI's and Test matches. If PCB drops him from ODI's or Test matches...then you can call the PCB stupid, ignorant...whatever. Its just for the 20/20 WC they have experimented without him. Look at India's squad, Dhoni as captain...NZ 'rested' Flemming as well to give Vettori full freedom to lead the side.. Those players are not saying anything that ...'oh ive been cut from the squad i'll do this or i'll do that.'

I respect Yousuf for not doing what Razzaq has done. At least Yousuf kept his silcence. Whether he warranted a place in the team or not is a different arguement...but he didnt come out and do what Razzaq did.

This is why our team gets no where. Our players are so selfish, all they care about is themselves. Razzaq needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The last time he played a good innings was on 13th Feb. 2006 when he scored 64 not out against India.

Like i've said previously...no one's place is for granted. I think any team in the world would have dropped a player if he hasnt performed for over a year. To top everything off...his fielding is the worst...well I guess probably next to Kaneria...but at least Kaneria gives his 100%...Razzaq just looks like he's sleeping the field the whole time. He has no enthusiasm.

Razzaq was one of my fav hitters after Afridi and its sad to see him struggle like this. I wish he would be in form and he would have been a handful in the 20/20 WC...but in this form...he wud have been a liability. I was hoping him getting dropped would do him good...and knock some sense into him...but looks like even that hasnt worked.

Re: Yousuf and Razzaq may lose central contracts if failed to sign today

Classic Pakistani player ego...

Instead of working hard to regain his place in the team he throws his toys out of the pram...

The PCB should tell him to go play ICL.
