I was running some calculations and realised that the current government is the longest living nationally elected government that Pakistan has ever had. Gilani’s government has held for over twice as long as some of Benazir and Nawaz’s Previous terms.
Benazir Bhutto term 1 -20 months
Nawaz Sharif term 1 - 30 months
Benazir term 2 - 30 months
Nawaz Sharif term 2 - 20 months
Yousaf Gilani - 41 months
It is ironic that the most successful democratic government we’ve had is the one which has overseen the explosion of so very many problems in the country.
Re: Yousaf Raza Gilani - Pakistan's most successful democratic prime minister?
since when success is measured in months?
Unfortunately that is the only criteria that can be used in Pakistan politics, cuz it reflects how 'successfully' the government was able to keep opposition happy such that they didn't go for long march/removal of government.
Re: Yousaf Raza Gilani - Pakistan's most successful democratic prime minister?
I see it another way. Is there any other political party who could have delivered better than PPP in circumtances it got power 3 1/2 years ago? If the answer is no, then yes he is most successful PM and member of PPP in current turbulent times in Pakistan.

Animals would have delivered something better than the current lot.
Re: Yousaf Raza Gilani - Pakistan's most successful democratic prime minister?
Zia-ul-Haq was more successful, he stayed for 11 years.
The key note was democratically elected prime minister - this puts Zia (dictator presidente) and others, including Zulfikar Bhutto (Mujibur Rahman won the 1970 election) out of the running.
Re: Yousaf Raza Gilani - Pakistan's most successful democratic prime minister?
well said snowy winter, if anyone can even question who can deliver more that PPP has in the last 3.5 years, must be an idiot.
Animals behave better than this. This gov't has yet to appoint 1, decent, honest person in any position in Pakistan. So out of 50 high level posts
in Pakistan, they haven't been able to fine 1 person. Thats an odds of 2%. You can't try and be this horrible.
As wikileaks has told us, Gilani was made PM because he was corrupt enough that he could be controlled. No wonder Pakistani people are facing so much problems.
