Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

So we have lots of memorable events here we’re all proud of and our weddings are one of the most treasured ones of them!

Do you mind if your wedding pictures become public property?

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Not really. I had my pics up here ages ago and our photographers shared them on their blog, plus they're on my Pinterest as part of my portfolio. Hey, we looked good and it was a great wedding! Consider it a public service? ;) :P I kid! I kid! I swear!

In all seriousness tho, I think it's very hard to avoid unless you tell your photographer to only use shots of your feet/hands/accessories and no face shots on their public accounts but I always feel that is unfair to the vendor. Your photos are their hard work and they should be allowed access to show them off and use them for portfolio purposes. I'm probably in the minority though...

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Our photographer had our pics printed and posted all around his studio. Random people started coming up to me and telling that they loved my wedding/outfits/pics… and it became a bit uncomfortable. It was a vendor in a busy area so I asked him to take them down. he gave me the framed pics but hubby thinks putting up pics around the house is not islamic so I have them sitting around in the closet.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Personally, I do mind... Luckily my photographers knew how I am about privacy etc so they didn't publish my pics - it is part of their studio portfolio so they can show it to people who visit them in person. And my MUA has my headshot only so not a biggie. I think it just depends from person to person ... everyone feels differently about things.

mine was put up on a store's billboard.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

^ :biggthumb:
Lol I remember that! Whatever happened after you found the billboard?

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Nothing, the store shut down and I guess someone else bought it and put up a new picture. :D

No way! ^ how did they get your wedding pictures in the first??

SGC I am in agreement with you! As a vendor, I rely on my portfolio to help grow my business. I can also understand a client wanting privacy, so now I make it clear about what will be posted. If we don't come to an agreement about it, I sometimes don't take on those weddings.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

^ Same here! Luckily though, I do paper goods so I tend to avoid most of the issues other vendors like photographers and MUA's face.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Wow!

I don't mind generally but it also depends on where it ends up and why.. I had my pics (fully clothed) put on the front page of a porn site once (NOT acceptable obviously) but if it was on here, Facebook or something like that I wouldn't mind.. and as long it's not some weirdo pretending to be me with a caption saying 'I just got marrieddd!!!!'.. Have seen that happen as well..

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

If a photographer wants to use it for portfolio or in studio then its fine but on social media for random people. A big No, too many perverts out there who can and will make wrong use of your pictures, like mentioned above.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

^ but you can't control that... once your pictures are online anywhere, they're fair game for the whole world to take.
a friend of mine put up our wedding photo teaser album before i did on her facebook because she liked the photos so much! that was pretty funny but was there anything i could do about it? nope. they were up on the photographers blog and she took them from there.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Were you able to get it taken off the porn site? how? that's my biggest fear! :S

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

^Yeah, my dad threatened legal action and they were quickly taken down.. Just goes to show though your pics can end up anywhere.. Even if you're careful you can't stop friends or friends of friends posting photos..

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

Yes, absolutely. I had a family relative who does photography do my photos, and he hasn't shared them or put them up on his website as far as I'm aware. This was all agreed prior to the photography. Also, I didn't let anyone take photos of me with their camera phones or any other device on the day (sister was on hand for that task) as I don't trust where those photos could go. For me it was only because I wear hijab and don't want na-mehrem's getting their hands on my pics. That's all.

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

I would mind. Thank goodness I was married in the dark ages!

Re: Your Wedding Pictures and Social Media: Do you mind? Or do you not?

I would mind very much. I feel wedding pictures are very private matters and I think more than me, the family would mind more.

At our wedding we had a clear agreement with the photographer and he had no problems with it.

For all these reasons being married a decade or so ago feels so much better and easier...:D
