I got married approx 8 months ago now and my brother is inshallah getting married at the end of the year…my family is telling me 2 wear my wedding lengha on his mehndi..i would love 2 but the following issues r making me rethink my decision
My lengha is very very heavy…how will I dance
Wont I look OTT?
I was thinking of having a plain top stitched with it…but does everyone agree that if you are to wear it at a wedding then you should wear to the mehndi ceremony…i dont wanna clash with the brides lengha on the baraat…i would feel bad taking away attention from her!!!
Mine was a beige and a red and with loads of different coloured diamnte work so dont think it should clash with hers...dont plan 2 wear dupatta on head at all....maximum would wear my tikka, no way would wear a jhoomar or anything!!
So Mehndi would be a better ceremony 2 wear it to?
Maybe I should ask my brothers fiance on her thoughts too..
she was fine 4 me 2 wear my engagement lengha on hr engagement though...so dont think she will care.....lets see
well don't you think its A LOT to wear your wedding dress to a mehndi? Make sure your not over dressed at the mehndi compared to the wedding and valima. I don't like the idea of rewearing your wedding dress if: its not turned into a sari or just a kameez with pants/shalwar. But besides that you could rock it and not clash with the bride, because remember the bride will still be the center of attention. And also if your gonna wear it, as the other girls said, don't wear the dupetta on your head, and plz don't wear your wedding jewellery set. If you wear the earings it should be enough.
See I agree with you lot...but Ive heard its typical for new brides 2 wear their wedding lengha on the mehndi....because if you wear it on the barat then your more likely 2 clash with the bride.....ohhhh I dont know!!
Btw your right...im going to keep my jewellery very low key if I do wear it...lets see...im double minded still
My wedding lengha top was quite heavy too..so what Im thinking is to make a plain top with the wedding lengha and wear it on my brothers wedding and then get a saari made with my wedding top...now how do I go about making a saari for a top? :S
Could I just buy a saari and then use that to wear with my wedding lengha top.....mite wear the saari on another occassion..that way I can utilise the full wedding lengha....
But I think your brother's wedding is the one place where you can legitimately wear the suit again, without it seeming inappropriate. And you're still a new bride. It will look nice.
You should definitely wear it for your brother's wedding and if the wedding is in Pakistan then usually girls wear it for mehndi funciton- I plan to give my barat lehnga (red) to someone but I am keeping my valima (rust n green) lehnga to wear it for my cousin brothers shadi, if I ever get a chance to attend them. But, please dun wear the tikka- I think tikka is only for the brides especially the gold ones that you get with your bridal jewelry.

I'm considering that as well. My top was quite plain with kaam on the daman and sleeves so i'm thinking of either getting plain kapra and have just a little bit of kaam on the borders/pallo OR have kapra attached to the duputta to make it into a saree, though I think the second option may be too complicated.
For the duputta i can always get a plain suit, and now that just leaves the lengha, the lengha is so full of heavy kaam, there's really ntohign i can do for it ? =//

^i think thats a great idea about a a ligher shirt with your lengha, and getting a sari for your wedding top ( a heavy sari will look really hott at the wedding).
But if you want to wear your lengha as it is for the wedding, thats a good idea too, but later i think your should make two different suits out of it.:)

Yes I think your right, they wear it on the mehndi..but how the hell do they dance? :S lol
Regarding tikka...on my wedding loads of girls were wearing tikkas and I dont think it looks OTT, I guess it depends on what family it is aswell...in Pakistan Im 100% sure even the old aunties will be wearing their tikke lol....I saw it last time in their family...

Wear the lengha!!!! :)
Your idea about making a suit from the dupatta is a good idea...you see my dupatta was jaali with heavy stones all over it...weighed a ton! So dont think I can really make a suit out of it...but if your dupatta isnt jaali then definitely a good idea...oh and yeh your 2nd option is way too complicated LOL
i personally don't like the idea because i know i wouldn't be able to walk around and i'd feel odd.
but anywho, my sil wore her valima dress on my engagement but it was ok cuz hers was a grayish lehnga and she only wore her earrings and necklace n it didn't matter to me :p
and please don't wear it on mehndi, that's just gonna be too much

Mine is chiffon or georgette I think, with heavy kundan/stone kaam all over it.
acutally i was saying i will make a plain suit, but i think ur saying i should make a suit out of that duputta? Not a bad idea ;) but i'm not sure..will ahve to ask someone...........
