We see piracy in all forms, and from all sources. Whether it be your local bootlegger on the street selling you the latest dvds, or the new craze for internet piracy that branches into downloading music, documents, movies, software, games, and anything else that one can imagine.
MPAA and other organization have protested against piracy strongly, and have even reached Washington through their lobbying efforts to get action taken against piracy here in the U.S. and abroad (namely Sweden).
It’s the users or as they’re referred in the P2P world, peers, against the makers of product, Hollywood/Software Programmers/Technology giants like Microsoft, etc.
What is your view on it? Is piracy ethical, and should it be allowed? Is it the right of the users to decide the fate of companies that spend so much money and produce a product to only have it pirated all across the globe with a simple click of a button, free of cost? Or are the enforcers of copyright laws correct in prosecuting and going after people who indulge in Piracy?
PS: Piracy is considered Illegal in the U.S. and those found committing it can be prosecuted according to the laws in their states.
It is unethical, no question about it. There is unfortunately no sense of guilt attached with copying disks, recycling serial numbers, ripping music etc probably because nothing tangible is being stolen here.
We as muslims have to respect the law of the land we live in, and if the law says it is intellectual property and should not be copied then it is our duty to obey it. We all whine all about how software is so expensive etc and it would be impossible to afford basic software. Thing is though someone spent months, even years developing that software. Everyone who copies software should be forced to write a few hundred kilobytes of code to really be able to appreciate the gravity of the situation.
It is wrong, we all know it. Yet we all do it. :-/

Well piracy is illegal in the United States, but the argument that many who host services that provide pirated material (bittorrent, etc) and their peers (those who use services) put forth is that, it is not illegal in the country where it is being hosted.
Some go as far as to say that if it’s illegal it shouldn’t be on the internet; i pay for the internet and everything on the internet belongs to me. Finders Keepers, basically. So, if it is put up for the purpose of taking, then how can taking it become illegal especially considering that it is being shared willingly by whoever uploaded it. It is not being snatched or hacked. It is there for the taking.
Ethically, i agree with Cheegum, in principle it is wrong and goes against the conscience of right and goodwill. But what if your conscience is of the mindset i mentioned above that if it is there and is being shared, and you assume that whoever put it there paid for it therefore it wasn’t stolen, but he/she is willingly is sharing it, then what do you do?
THIS film here outlines the problems faced by both sides, their ideologies, and workaround to the problem.
Piracy is illelagal in USA so I don’t see US movies on internet websites but Indian movies are available everywhere especially GEO dramas are available on Youtube. So I watch them
