U have all the reason to doubt as I have no link to offer :). But the year was 2003, and venue was Christian college ground in Lucknow. One can find the video of that particular program. Dr Zakir Naik delivered a lecture and during the question answer session, I was second to pose my question.
And possibly the right answer to the question lies in the following verse of Allama Iqbal,
Shor Hai Ho Gaye Duniya Se Musalmaan Nabood
Hum Ye Kahte Hain Ki The Bhi Kahin Musalmaan Maujood?
Waja Me Tum Ho Nisari To Tamaddun Me Hanood
Ye Musalmaan Hain Jinhe Dekh Ke Sharmaye Yahood?
