Imran Khan (Great bowler, all-rounder and captain, a credit to the nation)
Javed Miandad (Great batsman and astute captain)
Wasim Akram (Great bowler, okish with the bat and okish captain)

Imran's exceptional leadership skills set him apart from the rest
- First test series victory in India in 1986/7
- First test series victory in England in 1987
- Drawing three test series against the most formidable team of his time, West Indies
- In 1992 Imran was 39, well past the age of retirement for fast bowlers. He could only justify his place in the team as a captain and batsman. Although there were good contributions from several players during that world cup - notably Wasim, Miandad, Inzi, Aaqib, Mushtaq, Aamir Sohail and Ramiz Raja - I believe that Imran's strong leadership and self-belief was the main reason we won the world cup.

Others who were left out of my top-3 but worth mentioning are Inzi, Yousuf, Saeed, Waqar and Saqlain.

As I thought, Wasim Akram in almost everyone's top 3. If it were going to be top 2, I would imagine he would still be there. Unique cricketer.

Interestingly (and I believe rightly), Shoaib Akhtar is not in any one's top 3.

However if asked to name the 3 most mentally resilient Pak cricketers my list w'd be as follows:

  • Imran Khan
  • Javed Miandad
  • Waqar Younis

Between the two W's, Waqar was mentally stronger than Wasim, although the latter was more naturally gifted, possessing a greater armoury of deliveries, a point noted by none other than Imran Khan himself. If things started to go against you, Wasim's shoulders would drop under pressure while Waqar often relished the challenge

Yeh rightly is the right word here. He could have been in top 10 but not certainly in top 5 even.

It may derail the thread but Wasim Akram produced crucial spells in pressure situations year after year. Not to belittle Waqar in any sense though. He has his own moments under pressure.

Wasim Akram lost it when got involved in various scandals of match fixing and drugs after becoming the captain otherwise he's deserves to be in top 3.
