^ mmmm.. maybe they were still in the shock of it all? Maybe adrenaline was still coursing through their bodies and their protective instinct to save their own lives was still running a muck? Maybe they weren’t still in their right minds and just wanted to feel safe? I suggest a psych evaluation.

Since this person is supposed to be my friend, i’d wait till the psych evaluation and stay by their side till then. If proven guilty, astala vista baby. If not, time for some therapy.
