Usually there are not a lot of pakistanis who like alternative music – some do, others don’t.
but, sometimes, i am just soo amazed on the good music they produce. It is not only their guitar talent; their lyrics mean so much as well.
now, i don’t know the difference between heavy metal, rock, alternative, punk – they all basically seem like they’re all in the same music genre to me <<however, i think heavy metal & punk is a bit more…loud & crazy>>. That’s why i’d rather stick to the Alternative classification – it covers a lot of bands that i like.
although, i’m always kinda curious what pakistanis say/think about alternative music. i know when i first moved to the canadian town i live in, my potential lady pakistani friends were shocked & were laughing @ me at the fact that i liked such music…
You are right Kohal, there aren't much Pakistanis who like alternative rock. But Iam one of very few people who likes Alt rock.

i am recruiting some beggers of Lahore and creating an alternative music band. No traditionsl instruments will be used. only clapping and sonetimes beating beging bowl. sometimes beating two begging bowls on each other makes wonderful rhythm. please suggest the name for the band.

well the thing is alt music is not good in terms of guitar talent, lyrics or whatever you think then GRUNGE MUSIC which includes Pearl Jam, Blur, Bush, Collective Soul, Cranbarries, Live, REM, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Junoon, Reef,Dishwalla etc
these are the bands which till today are performing and as a band
old bands like Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc
these all bands have all what you need to hear... Oasis and others have love driven lyrics mostly...
Then metal and stuff is metallica and megadeath stuff.. which also sometimes sounds like grunge and your alt also has some songs in Grunge category
what i mean to say is Grunge is the music we should be after
yeah but Ark, the term GRUNGE music sounds so *raw, inhumane, * or something like that.
bands like Collective Soul, Cranbarries, Live, REM, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkin, etc dun't really seem like that....or most of the time at least..
Sometimes i think this sort of music makes much more sense than what perky Pop music, or RnB/Hip-hop has to offer. practically.

I think essence of the rock music is confined the 60-early eighties era, that’s when the best of rck music was composed. I don’t consider Grunge to replicate rock in any manner. Grunge is more associated with the generetaion X as it’s is not ‘rythemic’ as classic rock, and is more raw form of lead and bass. Classic rock will always be refreshing and soothing, in my mind. Coming home and listening to the leads of Mark Knophler or the vocals of Robert Plant just erases all the stress..
I also like Johnny Lang, i think he has the same mindset as some of the great guitarists like keith Richards and Jimmy Hendrix..

but, i kinda just find it really easy to just squeeze ALL guitar music into 1 kinda music genre <<even though sometimes it isn’t a correct classification>>.
but alas, some of the alternative music does go into the electronic mainstream. i.e. the new alternative group Filter; they’ve used some of their music which groups like Crystal Method or Delerium would use.
as for Classic Rock, i usually like what i hear of it – that is IF i get the chace to hear it right? Rober Plant & Sniff ‘n’ Bear’s music are good!!! <— outlaw’s recommendations

most people i mean ordinary music listeners follow main stream//// thats when a very popular music artist like Madonna or whatever joins with a new edgy band on rise with grunge heads… so they dont really know what theFFFF to call it so they call it pop rock or main stream ./././././..
they is no shit thing as pop rock its just sick to say pop as well as rock… thats odd but even americans or british also categorize music into pop rock

if you see RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE (RATM) this band is the soul and heart of GRUNGE WITH RAP
now what you see in their music is REBELLING MUSIC AND LYRICS against makeups of GOVT laws and all fake smiles… this is a pure thought… ok
now see what the MF***** american cheap musicians with just having the ability to play power chords (guitaring term) copy music which has a totally different feeling, thought or beleive and make bands like F*** KORN< limpbizkit> and all MF bands like those

taking you to piracy now i think this Napster thing is ILLEGAL… no fan should use i used it but downloaded one MP3 and uninstalled it cos its not fair i mean they are musicians and earn from our buying so music should be bought… they are not asking for hundreds of dollars just less than twenty each and evry music…
