Re: Your parents wedding

My mom's account of her wedding is kinda cute...he wasn't allowed to meet her so he stole a picture of her and a recorded cassette of her singing...she has a beautiful voice Mashallah and is a naatkhwan.

He kept those items for the two years they were engaged while he was in US. They got married in '78...three months later they came to US.

If you look at my parent's post wedding pictures...all you see are pictures of my mom...such a pretty woman Mashallah My dad was completely in love with her and would just start snapping pictures when they went anywhere. I am in awe of her at times...she had/has beauty and brains in one small package Mashallah. Very sweet.

Re: Your parents wedding

My parents got married in 1965 during the war time in AJK. My Father passed away 15 years ago, Mom is still with us (may she be blessed with long and happy life). They got married pretty young as was the custom of the day, my Father was 21 years old and Mom 16 (this is what she says :) ).
They were from different villages and rishta was done through common acquaintances of both families, all arranged affair. The barat reached in about 1 hour on foot :D. Nikah was done on the same day, and then walima next day. Overall it was pretty simple affair, they had to arrange desi ghee and desi chicken for the walima since broiler chickens were not common in those days in our part. My Mom says more than the villagers, IDPs attended the wedding. Because of constant firing and shelling many families living near LoC moved inland for safety.

Next day my Dadi asked my Mom to prepare breakfast for whole family. My mom never forgets to mention this :D After the marriage both of them moved to Lahore for some years, before settling in Pindi in the 80s.

Re: Your parents wedding

^ sorry to hear about your loss. may Allah bless his soul and enter him in jannat...aameen

also, as an Indian, sorry for ruining your mom's and dad's wedding! :(

yup...those days were simple...desi ghee and desi murGhe...waah kia baat hai! meraa dil karne lagaa desii murGha khaane ko...desii ghee ab to mushkil se hii miltaa hai...haN agar ghar kaa banaa huaa ho to kia hii kahne. :)

ab aapkii shaadii kii planning kia hai? zaraa tafseelan bataaiyegaa to sahi. :)

This is sweet, but it’s sad to hear that your father passed away so young. May Allah grant him the best place in jannah

Re: Your parents wedding

I really love this thread!!!! No videos but I have seen purpley and sepia toned pics. My mom wore a maroonish red gharara, minimal dewy skin and dark berry lips. She was insanely gorgeous. My dad was literally a tall skinny kid who was surrounded by hydro women!!! From what it seems, they look happy. There is a picture where he is praying namaz, and if you ask him, he is asking for panah!!!

My mom wore a white sari for valima. My chacha was totally checking out my khala and those two later married. Yep so that happened!!!

Your parents wedding

My papa was best friends with my Ammi's mamoo in Hyderabad. In the late 60's ammi's mamoo moved to Karachi and a couple if years later Papa followed as some of his brothers had moved too. At mamoo's house he saw my Ammi and well, that's where it all started. He started leaving her notes with shayari and verses and told my dadi this was who he wanted to marry.

My Ammi wore the traditional Hydro karra dupatta with a kamdani ghoonghat that had the thick kiran border and papa had the full phoolon ka sehra...it hung down to his knees lol.

I wore part of ammis's bridal dress at my own mehndi.

For their Valima, my Ammi wore a dark green banarasi sari which is very traditional for Hyderabadi brides.

I only have 2 black and white wedding photos of theirs. Even though my Ammi eventually remarried after their divorce, my papa never did. She was always his only love, and kismat dheko, they both passed away just 30 days apart.

Re: Your parents wedding

:chupki: since i am very close to me grandma she told me all about me parents wedding. My father got job in saudi arabia and he was the eldest in brothers. He was the type not willing to get married and was living safely, till one day my grandma faked her illness and called him back. He came back to see her as soon as he got the msg :teggy:and thats when he was forced to get married with me mom :@: love you grandma

Re: Your parents wedding

It was an arranged marriage. Dad went to Copenhagen to see her in real life after seeing a photograph. They got married in Denmark, had mehndi and baraat there. Came back but didnt have a valima as promised :P

Re: Your parents wedding

My parents didn’t have a ‘proper’ desi wedding.. just a nikah.. I’ve never even seen photos from that day :teary1:
