contrary to popular belief, even old Arabic names such as that of the Caliphs and the Sahaba do have a meaning as well...
For e.g. "Umar" comes from the root nodes "ain", "meem" and "ra" which symbolizes foundation - and so the name Umar signifies "strong foundation".
This kind of makes sense since in Urdu we have a similar logic for the word imarat again with the same root nodes and the word means building.
This was explained to me by my Arabic teacher, and since then, I've tried to look more deeply into names and their meanings.
