So folks, who is your most favourite negative character? I really love Satan, in Paradise Lost, book I.
It’s odd, but generally when I am reading a book, or watching a movie, all my sympathies are reserved for the ‘bad guy’. The one character who is supposed to be really evil. I don’t know why, and the characters supposed to be really good and angel-like really nauseate me. Ugh.
Don't want to sound like a literature geek but my sympathies all go to MacBeth. Poor son of a gun had no control of what he's doing. His fate was sealed before he was born. Them witches were controlling his mind round the clock.
Either I am out of touch with my Shakespeare, or else I am wrong in assuming that MacBeth was actually free to act. But, yeah I sympathize with the poor guy too, he was constantly nagged by his domineering wife, shouldn’t have listened to her!
And what about poor Othello? Some critics argue that we pity Desdemona more than Othello, but to be quite frank Desdemona simply disgusts me. I mean, how thick can you be not to notice that your husband is being jealous, and she had to chant Cassio, Cassio. Idiot!
