I love different colors of bowls, plates, pots and pans.. I buy single bowls and cups all the time but my mom hates it.. she believes in “dinner set” so to please her I do have couple of dinner sets but I love playing with colors, designs etc.. Also, I believe in using everything that you have since I grew up with pretty much everything in cabinets and used for special ocassions or guests only!
Personally I don’t own that many yet just because we don’t have enough room in our very small kitchen but as soon as we will move to a bigger place I will like to have a different dinner plate or bowl pretty much everyday!!
I dun like dinner sets with everything matchy matchy.. Am I going to offend desi guests if I serve them in multi color plates/bowls etc???

I used to be like you, I had all sorts of colours and single pieces. Slowly I've started to switch to dinnersets cuz I realised that for dinnerparties it needs to look pretty.
I recently purchased a clean white basic dinnerset and I've actually given all my old stuff away. I like contemporary things now, so my style has def changed considerably over the past few yrs :-)
We have a mix of things. It just depends, sometimes a particular dinner set catches the eye, and sometimes mismatched odds and ends do. Nothing set in stone, though I suppose there is some sort of consistency. shrug
With bowls and stuff to put the main dishes in I dont care .. but the plates etc etc should be matched. I dont like mis-match. I prefer the classy look.
I quite wanted to say what Shinoo said … I love colors to the extent that I have bought different bright colored mugs for day to day use … simply love colors .. but when it comes to dinner parties and dawats .. I try to have a classic theme , coz it looks neat …
by the way , i went to a party the other day and the lady had these beautiful white dinner plates , with white side plate in it , and finally a red rice bowl .. looked awesome
interesting... honestly I have never been to a party/dawat with mix n match colors so I assumed that desis really dont like to do it and of course since my mom doesn;t like it either so I understand!!
I wonder if its a matter of time that my style will change as well!! but for now, colors all the way!!!

gtg, do u mean different designs and shapes too.. Or just different colours? I'm dinner set type of a person! I don't mind the colour thing on daily basis... its fun! but for a dawat defo a nice dinner set..
