Re: Your Greatest World Cup Playing 11 Ever
We cannot ignore lara given his talent and ability to change the match alone…
but we also need a stabilizer so i would put kallis over javed becasue kallis can also be used as sixth bowler in case one of the bowlers is having a a bad day…plus he is a better fielder..kallis can also be used at any position given the match condition…he came as an opener, one down, 2 down , 3 down…so we can use him at different positions.
i picked sanga over gili because we have enough explosive bats down the order (kapil, imran and wasim with richards and lara), so it is good to have sanga who is more established than gili on different type of pitches i.e. srilankan or indian dusty spin pitches or bouncy aussies or SA. With 400 ODIs and average above 40 plus 400 catches he deserves to be in the team
There is no ODI team without waqar younis, best ever bowling statistics in ODI history with 415 wickets in 260 matches with such a fantastic strike rate of 30, economy of 4.5 and 27 times 4+ wickets… but i have been told that this team is based on players’ performance in the world cup only…so i had to keep waqar out. He did not play many WCs..
I picked garner over mcgrath and holding purely becasue Garner had both mcgrath and holding in him..quick, mean and very economic. **
Sachin Tendulkar
Sangakkara (WC)
Ricky Ponting
Viv Richards
Brian Lara
Kallis
Kapil Dev
Imran Khan (c)
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne
Joel Garner**
Totally forgot about Joel Garner, so difficult to score runs off because of his height and the bounce he produced as a result… he would walk into most all-time ODI XIs
