So what’s your first memory of attending a game/match live? Right there in the middle of the action, rooting for your team and/or player and watch those amazing plays unfold before your eyes.
I still remember the first time I got to see some of mah heroes on stage, in the thick of things.
Cricket: Entering the Sharjah CA Stadium as a lil’ tyke, the very first sight that greeted me was Waqar charging in and firing in some scorchers at Richie Richardson in a triangular. I was held in awe, the players were all so.. real, they looked bigger and the ground looked smaller than on TV. Soon a thinner-lookin Inzamam ran across in the sweeper position and sent in a bullet of a throw that landed right in Moin’s gloves. WoW! The adrenaline was going through the roof, and Waqar takes a wicket in the next over. This is the stuff young boys’ dreams are made of. I knew I as hooked..
Hockey: Watching Jaromir Jagr (when he was still a Penguin) play the Rangers and lose. The pushing and shoving interested me more than game itself.
Soccer/Football: Can’t remember the first time I attended a game, but being an Aston Villa supporter it must’ve been one of their home games.
Xtreme sports: Watched some semi-professionals whizzing and wheeling away on ramps in a prep tournament for the annual X-games championship a few years ago. It looked harder than it did on TV, these were some dedicated kids indeed. Reminded me of the “Circle of Death” mobike stunts that were all the rage at Lucky Irani Circus (Pakistan’s popular troupe).
Cricket: I'm a die-hard fan of Miandad; and watched him play for the first time in Karachi in WC 96 against England where he played his last official match. I was 14 yrs old that time. It was an emotional moment for everyone, knowing that it's Miandad's last match in Karachi. Before the start of the match, there's was continous support for Miandad chanting Javed! Javed! The whole crowd was burst when Ijaz Ahmed got out 'cause we knew it's time for Miandad to come. And then there was a great standing ovation for the Great Man. Truly brilliant moment for me as a Cricket fan.
Second Cricket match, I've watched LIVE was the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 1997 @ Lahore. South Africa gave target of 272 and Shaun Polluck proved to be too good for Saeed Anwar, Aamir Sohail and Ijaz Ahmed after removing them in the first over of Pakistan's inning. Score was Pakistan 0/3 in 1 over. It was really hard to imagine. But then Inzamam put a great fight, knock 85 runs; and Pakistan fell short of just 9 runs. Even though, Pakistan lost that game but kept on fighting till the end.
Basketball: When I moved to L.A in 2000, LAKERS were buisness; and it was a great moment for the fans when LAKERS won NBA Championship after the gap of almost 12 years. Bryant-O'Neal duo, coaching of Phil Jackson; and fans support kept LAKERS on fighting; specially Game 7 against TRAILBLAZERS was off the hook!
There's was joy, happiness in STAPLES Center. Defeating Indiana PACERS, LAKERS won NBA Championship. Dynasty began..... Second run for the title was tough, when media report surrounded much about Kobe-Shaq not getting along well. LAKERS proved it wrong after winning the 2nd consecutive title. I don't remember how many LAKERS games I've watched but there have been some great moments. The return of Shaq, O'Neal's Monster dunks, Kobe's making history of shooting 12 three-pt baskets against SUPERSONICS. Horry's game winning short against KINGS. Though, I don't follow that much regular season game of LAKERS but have almost watched LAKERS Playoffs Games LIVE!!!!!!!!!! There's always much to talk about when LAKERS name come across. :)
It was a sad moment when dynasty of LAKERS ended this year. Frankly, I never felt like that way, didn't know what to do. Cheer? Boo? Cry? In end, fans stood up and gave standing ovation for a great and fantastic run for 3 Championship titles.

It was Azhar Mahmood who put up the fight. He took us to within 10 odd runs.
Akram's comeback tournament as captain. Imran didn't show up when all Pak captains were invited. Was our 50th Azadi celebration and the Saffies ran away with the trophy. very annoying.
Yes, Azhar Mehmood played an awesome inning along with Moin Khan. But I guess Inzi was never been in that position to come to the crease with no score on the board and lost 3 wickets. Afterwards, it was Moin and Inzi, who carried all the weight and Azhar kept the hopes alive till the end.
sambrialian, do you remember Inzi’s fielding on the boundary that day? Which is why I gave credit to him. I was happened to be there, watched Inzi closely. Picked the ball and throw straight went in gloves of Latif! He certainly saved alot of boundaries; was fantastic! Remember, run-out of Cronje by Latif when Waqar threw the ball not even close to the stumps? Woohoo!
Sadly, the tournament ended not in Pakistan’s favor. Saffies won both Test and ODI series. They had a terrific tour to Pakistan. I guess, Imran didn’t showed up 'cause of election result. Maybe?
A Nasty experience..
I was in Class IX age 14,when WI tour Pakistan in 1991/1992,I think it was the first ODI. Lara ,Hooper and Haynes trio put good show to defeat pak by 25 odd run..
as the match finish teh National Stadium public shouting and aiming stones, plastic bags full of waters to teh WI fielder..i remember soem one throw Biryani's empty bag ,full of water ,ends up on the head of Ambrose fielding on 3rd Man..after that Police ( The karachi Tullas) comes and start beating people in the genral stand..at the end Pak loose and we come out of teh ground ,all people out there are shouting on different players ..
The Nasty moment when the 20/30 Police Tullas having teh wooden stick on hand on horseback was coursing towards crowd ..and suddenly they start Lathee charge on us..
meraai bhee 2/3 dandai lagai "TASHREEF" rakhnai kkee jaga par..woh din aur aaj ka din cricket through TV hee kafee hai..;) :rotfl"
Unfortuantly I never watched a live international cricket match.
In hockey went to watch Pakistan vs Australia in Karachi in 1993, at that time Pakistan hockey was at its best, watching Shabaz Juior and Shabaz Ahmed Senior in full flow was a treat to watch.
*Cricket: 1986-87 Pak vs NZ Rawalpindi *- Saw Imran Khan bowling to a not so great Kiwi outfit. Also saw Miandad bat. It was a bilateral series so not much at stake but it was a lot of fun.
NBA: Went to United Center in Chicago to watch Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman take over the Portland Blazers. Electrifying atmosphere when Jordan is on. I had to kiss some big kahunas to get the tickets.
NFL: Dolphins vs Bears in Miami. Saw the legendary Dan Marino throw some 80+ yarders. It was a Monday Night game and a treat to watch among the Dolfans of Miami.
** Bears vs Tampa Bay in Soldier Field Chicago**. Official temperature during the game was minus 5 deg Fehrenheit. Windchills made it feel like minus 20. It was unbelievably freezing cold. I was wearing three layers under the waiste and 5 above. Still was unable to take my hands out of the pockets. But guess what, it was jamp packed even though the Bears were having a losing season. Football fans are crazy.
Baseball:
Watch the Chicago Cubs take over St Louis Cardinals in Wrigley Field. Baseball is boring on tv but its a different proposition seeing live in Wrigley Field - one of the oldest ball park in the country.
Sumo Wrestling: Nagoya, Japan. Now this was an out of this world experience. Sitting with a couple of yanks and among ten thousand cheering Japanese was a bit over whelming. This sport is so cool to watch live. I can write a complete post just on this one. But some other time.
