Your first impression ..

Its all about “know thyself” …

Do you?

Do you know what impression your employer has of you? your colleagues have of you?
If its positive , well and good .. but if its negative , then what? do you recognize the need to change? and better yourself? how?

Re: Your first impression ..

I will be honest, a few years back , I realized that I am not seen as interacting enough with the colleagues. I used to go to work, get the work done, speak to people only as much as was needed and get back home.
Until it was highlighted to me by my managers a few times and I realized I must make an effort to mix in .. now I do … so yeah I did take the feedback onboard.

Recently though , I am experiencing that I am losing on it again. I don’t enjoy the conversations they are having .. but I must try harder to become a part of the conversations .. generally i am perceived as strictly professional , serious, strict individual… I cant seem to break that image no matter how hard I try … not the best thing to have really … but thats the image I portray :hinna:

Re: Your first impression ..

Throw a party at your home and invite them . Keep the theme of the party very casual.

Re: Your first impression ..

Mirch , but thats where the problem is .. I dont like being casual with work colleagues :frowning: … The way I am with friends , I can never be that way with colleagues … unless one of them defies all odds and becomes my friend :cb:

Re: Your first impression ..

I was told I was not a very good listener, which is really bad in my proffesion (HR!! and also i dont look into detail, i am aware of this, and its not my strength, i have to really work at it, but i still revert back to type, on a good note though a few years ago whilst doing an appraisal i was told by my employee that she soo admired my (and another managers) management style that she has adopted some aspects of it, and feels its really made a significant change in her life, i was like WHoa!!!! I never knew i had such an impact :)

Re: Your first impression ..

good stuff Clothesmad, I think feedback from others is really very important .. coz it helps you understand those strengths / weaknesses that you never thought existed in you !

Re: Your first impression ..

I read your post and then came across this article:

Re: Your first impression ..

She is different!!!

Lol, now i dont know if diff-good or diff-bad but that's another story. I have been to what like 3-4 interviews in total and Allah ka shukr hai have always gotten a positive response. Though i must say i am not the model candidtae because i can't be "proper" proper even for such interviews. I am often too honest and blunt for some people but that at times even works for me.

Re: Your first impression ..

**i've been lucky so far in the sense that i've seen ONLY ONE boss so far. i started my post graduate studies under the supervision of my current boss. she was a new prof back then. she liked my work ethics and dedication and hard work so much that one day she offered to accept me as her first PhD student. i was so happy to hear that coz i liked her teaching skills and her dedication and her hard work. after finishing my PhD she once again offered me a job as post doc researcher. it was a happy occasion. i've been working with her for the last 5 years and she has been excellent. she likes me as a worker and she once said her lab wud be widowed if i ever left my position.

she took me along to New Zealand last year for a research project there. unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer and we had to head back to Canada two months pre-maturely and now first time in my life i've been laid off while she recovers from her bout with cancer. i pray for her health. aameen

i always got a great feedback from my boss and colleagues alike. they like my work ethics, dedication, hard work and i appreciate their's as well. now, my boss and i are great friends as well. she is superb!**
