Re: Your first Eid's gift to your Spouse?
Giving gifts is Sunnah. You're supposed to give gifts on Eid, (both of them). Even the Prophet himself has said gift giving increases the love. If done right, done economically, and with the right intentions, I fail to see anything Christian or commercial in it.
Re: Your first Eid's gift to your Spouse?
Khumar the Hadis applies to:
1. Those in need
2. Kids.
Not your husband/uncle/chachi/mamoo/3rd cousin who you think is hot.

Agree.
Any ocassion is great let alone Eid.
Nothing to do with religion by itself but giving and accepting gifts make people come closer.
Should be encouraged but not discouraged. Spending on useless or expensive items is not a good idea.
Giving to poor and needy is also a good deed.
