Your favourite dialogues from Pride&Prejudice

i know we have several Pride and Prejudice fans here on gupshup. i thought, to have fun, why not do this - you have to post your favourite lines from P&P but only if you’ve got them memorized by heart. No cheating. It doesn’t matter if you get a few (or most!) of the dialogues wrong; just post it to the best of your recollection.

Okay i’ll begin; i know i’ve made some mistakes in the following but oh well. These aren’t my ‘favourites’ but these are the ones i remember for some reason:

“In vain i have struggled. It will not do. You must allow me to tell you how ardently i admire and love you.” Which P&P fan doesn’t remember this famous scene?

“A single man, in possession of a large fortune, MUST be in want of a wife.”

“No, you will take Betsy for it looks like rain and then you will have to stay the night.”

“Thank you, but i don’t fancy very much your way of finding a man.”

“Lizzie says she will not have Mr. Collins and Mr. Collins begins to say that he will not have Lizzie.”

You quoted all of my favourite lines.

I will tell you what my favourite scenes are though. The scene where Mr. Darcy initally rejects Lizzy at the country ball is quite memorable. Also, all the scenes with Mr. Collins were quite entertaining!

I love Mr. Darcy. Although, the character of the mother has to take the cake.

Mr. Darcy is such a sweetheart! :)

Though I didn't end up memorizing any part of the book, despite having read it numerous times, one of my many favorite parts was when Elizabeth finds out about all that Darcy did for her. I also like the part where Elizabeth visits Darcy's home with her Aunt and Uncle and Darcy shows up unexpectedly and their interaction during that visit.

oh yeah:

and Mrs. Bingly reminds me of a typical Pakistani mother ;)

“She’s tolerable I suppose :snooty: But not handsome enough to tempt me! You are dancing with the only handsome woman in the room. Go back to her and enjoy her smiles. You are wasting your time with me.” How could i forget this superb dialogue.

ooh yeah, Mr. Collins was hilarious :k: Remember when he tries to introduce himself to Mr. Darcy…and also when he’s telling Lizzie about the 108 (?) windows at Pemberley…man what a character. :smack:

Larki, You mean that part where Mr. Darcy went for a swim? :stuck_out_tongue: yeah, i love that part too where he’s asking her where she’s staying (“the inn at Lampton”) and how her family is, etc… one of my favourite scenes, especially later on when he tells her Uncle that he can fish anytime at his lake. He’s being so nice to her Uncle and Aunt.
