Your favourite '80s songs

just list them in no particular order; if you remember a favourite part of the lyrics from the song, please post that up as well. (yes i can’t go to sleep).

Wind beneath my wings… Bette Middler
So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name - for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.

No woman no cry … Bob Marley (dedicated originally for refugee women)
Good friends we have, oh good friends we have lost / Along the way
In this great future, / You can’t forget your past
So dry your tears, I seh
No woman no cry / No woman no cry
Little darling, don’t shed no tears

Broken wings … Mr. Mister
Take these broken wings / And learn to fly again
And learn to live so free/ And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up / And let us in
Take these broken wings / You got to learn to fly
And learn to live so free / And when we hear the voices sing
Let us in / Let us in

:k: Everything i do, i do it for you… Bryan Adams :k:
Look into my eyes - you will see / What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you’ll search no more
Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for
You know it’s true / Everything I do - I do it for you

Unchained Melody… Righteous Brothers
Lonely rivers flow / to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh, / “Wait for me, wait for me”
“I’ll be comin’ home, wait for me”

Every breath you take … The Police
Every breath you take / And every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take / I’ll be watching you
Every single day / And every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay / I’ll be watching you

With or without you… U2
See the stone set in your eyes / See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you / Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait / And I wait.. / ..without you
With or without you / With or without you

it must have beeeeeeeen love..............

Lay a whisper on my pillow, leave the winter on the ground.
I wake up lonely, there's air of silence in the bedroom and all around.
Touch me now, I close my eyes and dream away.

It must have been love but it's over now.
It must have been good but I lost it somehow.
It must have been love but it's over now.
From the moment we touched 'til the time had run out.

Make-believing we're together, that I'm sheltered by your heart.
But in and outside I've turned to water like a teardrop in your palm.
And it's a hard Christmas day, I dream away.

It must have been love but it's over now,
it was all that I wanted, now I'm living without.
It must have been love but it's over now,
it's where the water flows, it's where the wind blows.

Roxette :smack: how could i forget? i loved that song. Fabulous choice.

Thanks, OurSoulsAtPeace :~)

...and one more which used to bring tears in my eyes

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay
here in heaven.

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please,
begging please.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
tears in heaven.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
here in heaven.

:-(
Didn't Eric Clapton write that for his four year old son after he passed away in an accident. A very beautiful and at the same time depressing song; the lyrics are just sooo sad... Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?. :-(

how can i tell 80s mein to iwas just 5 yrs old

well i was born in 1980... i guess that makes me an oldie around here....? :-D
i grew up listening to songs between the period of '85 to '90, that time period has my favourite songs:--)

Re: Your favourite '80s songs

oh God...........i cant x-plain....the best memories of my life revolve around these songs and i still listen to them!! thanx for wakin all those memories that leave tears in my eyes cz i'm sooooooooooooooooooooo far from the people i love most in my life"!

bending of the rules here a bit, this is not from the '80s but one of all-time faves:

Love story - Andy Williams

where do I begin to tell a story of how great a love can be
the sweet love story that is older than the sea
the simple truth about the love she brings to me?
where do I start?
with her first hello she gave a meaning to this empty world of mine
there'd never be another love, another time
she came into my life and made the living fine
she fills my heart, she fills my heart with very special things
with angel songs, with wild imaginings
she fills my soul with so much love that anywhere I go I'm never lonely
with her along who could be lonely?
I reach for her hand, it's always there
how long does it last? can love be measured by the hours in a day?
I have no answers now but this much I can say:
I know I'll need her till the stars all burn away and she'll be there.

wry smile

Stuff from the eighties, nineties, before 'n beyond is all just a blurr to me - datewise I mean:) I kinda have a tendency to classify things into just 2 categories: what I like 'n what I dont like:)

But I can say all the songs that have been listed are favourites...Tears in Heaven is an amazing song - have you heard Celine's version? :)

Here's one of my favourites by Sting,

*Fragile

If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star, like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are, how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star, like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are, how fragile we are
How fragile we are, how fragile we are*

Ain't Nothing 'Bout You by Brooks and Dunn

**Once I thought that love was something I could never do
Never knew that I could feel this much
But this yearning in the deep part of my heart for you
Is more than a reaction to your touch
It's a perfect passion and I can't get enough

The way you look, the way you laugh,
The way you love with all you have,
There ain't nothing bout you that don't do something for me
The way you cry,
The way you move when you walk by
There's ain't nothing bout you (there ain't nothing bout you)
That don't do something for me**

I'm Alive by Celine Dion

*Heal the World * by Michael Jackson

**There´s a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could
Be much brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You´ll find there´s no need to cry
In this place you´ll feel
There´s no hurt or sorrow

There are ways
To get there
If you care enough
For the living
Make a little space
Make a better place

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

If you want to know why
There´s a love that
Cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares of
Joyful giving
If we try
We shall see
In this bliss
We cannot feel
Fear or dead
We stop existing and
Start living

Then it feels that always
Love´s enough for
Us growing
So make a better world
Make a better world
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

And the dream we were
Conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we
Once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep
Strangling life
Wound this earth
Crucify its soul
Though it´s plain to see
This world´s is heavenly
Be god´s glow

We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart
I feel you are all
My brothers
Create a world with
No fear
Together we cry
Happy tears
See the nations turn
Their swords
Into plowshares

We could really get there
If you cared enough
For the living
Make a little space
To make a better place….

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me**

:~)

andy william songs is just brillian
though i would like to quote my fv here.. there aare so many of them ..
i will start by "Right here waiting " Richrd Marx

Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
But it doesn't stop the pain

If I see you next to never
How can we say forever

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

I took for granted, all the times
That I though would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can't get near you now

Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' crazy

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

I wonder how we can survive
This romance
But in the end if I'm with you
I'll take the chance

Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' crazy

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

wow Saby:biggthumb :biggthumb ...one of my fav as well...Richard Marx!!!! I am posting another of his lovely hits....

My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven
Even then the folks in town said with prejudiced eyes
That boy's not right
Three years ago when I came to know Mary
First time that someone looked beyond the rumors and the lies
And saw the man inside
We used to walk down by the river
She loved to watch the sun go down
We used to walk along the river
And dream our way out of this town

No one understood what I felt for Mary
No one cared until the night she went out walking alone
And never came home
Man with a badge came knocking next morning
Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly
Pointed right at me

I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town

I think about my life gone by
How it's done me wrong
There's no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone

I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town

through the barricades by Spandau ballet

mother doesn`t know where the love has gone
she says it must be the youth that keeps us feeling strong
i see it in her eyes thats turned to ice
And when she smiles she shows the lines of sacrifice
And i know what they are saying as our sun begins to fade
and we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

Born on different sides of life
we feel the same and feel all of this is strife
so come to me when im sleep
we
ll cross the lines and dance upon the streets
and i know what they are saying as drums begin to fade
and we made our love on waste land and through the barricade

Seasons In the Sun originally written as Le Moribund
late 70`s

Adieu, Emile my trusted friend
weve known each other since we were nine or ten
together we climbed hills and trees
learned of love and A B C
s
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees
Adieu Emile it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky now
that the Spring is in the air
pretty girls are everywhere
think of me and I'll be there
we had joy we had sun
we had seasons in the sun
but the hills we would climb
were just seasons out of time

adieu papa, please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
you tried to teach me right from wrong
too much wine and too much song
wonder how we got along
Adieu, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky
now that the spring is in the air
little children everywhere
when you see them I'll be there

Adieu Francoise my trusted wife
without you I'd have had a lonely life
you cheated lots of times but then
I forgave you in the end
though your lover was my friend
Adieu, Francoise it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky
now that spring is in the air
with your lovers everywhere
just be careful, I'll be there

Adieu. emile. Adieu Papa Adieu Francoise

All our lives we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
but the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time
but the stars we could reach
were just starfish on the beach
