Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

I currently started liking Ali Shariati.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Umera Ahmed. :k:

Jaast kidding…though I feel her works do carry profound messages about religion.

I don’t know of authors…I Like the Maududi tafseer of Quran, though some find him controversial. In terms of speakers, I like listening to Nouman Ali Khan, Hamza Yusuf and Sarfraz A Shah sometimes.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

sarfaraz Shah of ‘kahe Faqeer’?

Umera Ahmed is good at the level of the audiences she attracts. At least, by her works people come to know some basics and then can develop urge to search further

It's always easy to understand religion if written in a story form.A good story can be an inspiration to many. There is this young writer nimra ahmed whose novel subjects are somewhat similar to umera's but,her writing style is far better than how umera writes. Her novel MUS'HAF is a well researched novel written at a very young age of 18-20.It's a story about a girl who seeked guidance from Quran and whenever she had any confusion in her mind she would open Quran and get her query solved. It was like Quran was talking to her.We all know Quran has answers to all our questions but it really depends on us how much and what we ask from it.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

I agree and another example is Abu yahya’s ‘Jab Zindagi Shrro Hogi’ by Abu Yahya. A good book, but it also attracted criticism on some accounts.

I recommend that one must read this novel based on Hazrat Bilal’s (RA) life. The narrator of the novel is Hazrat Bilal and Saleem Gilani’s style makes it absorbing.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Maududi agrees with killing of apostates/murtids. Also he led campaigns against Ahmadi Muslims resuting in riots and persecution! strange how you are against killing of apostates yet like Maududi , one of the most intolerant man ever.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

You’re basically trying to make an indirect dig/ and false accusation at me that I must support killing of apostates then if I like reading his tafsir. Did you ever stop to think that maybe I did not know this about Maududi? Because the truth is that I didn’t know this. But you rushed to quote and post because you must have thought, “Oooooh YAY!!! I found a contradiction in RV’s beliefs. I have pounced on something that I can use to ONCE AGAIN accuse her of being a liar and talking bs, haina?” I will not rush to form a negative opinion of Maududi; I’ll have to do my own research on him.

I like his format of the English tafsir because it includes references of both the similarities and differences in the interpretations of the Bible, Quran and Torah. His way of writing, I feel, has helped me understand what I’ve read of the Quran thus far…and I can appreciate his efforts in that. You shun religion altogether and I don’t even support your persecution any more than I do of the Ahmedis,

But, see what you just did here Bella. You rushed to incorrectly assume that, I too, must support persecution…simply because I said that I like readinf Maududi’s tafsir…which by the way…I am still faaaaar from finishing. In your post you HAVE acknowledged that you have read my many other posts where I have said I don’t support such persecution. But the fact that I said this many times was not enough to convince, because within a matter of seconds you deemed a liar after reading my opinion on Maududi. Bella, I wish you could hear my voice to know that I’m very calm right now and I don’t feel any aggression toward you. I say this because it hard to determine a person’s tone from their post. But I want you to reflect on something: If you can rush to have such severe assumption about me, if you see me in such a harsh light, what thoughts do you have about other Muslims? Do you see all of them as ruthless?

FYI, the Maududi Tafsir books can be found in many Muslim households…I have seen them in the masjids…i know other people who have them…good decent Muslims who wouldn’t support the kind of persecution you speak of…and I bet some of them, like me, don’t know much about the author.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

uff no! i was just surprised that you like him! yes do your research on him. he is one of the scholars who considers murtid as wajib-ul-qatl. I have read his tafsir as well. Anyway, this really wasn’t implying that you support the killing at all, sorry if you took it that way. I just didn’t expect you to be a fan of him when your views differ so much. perhaps you didn’t come across the things I came across. I never said you support such things.
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi argued that verses of the Qur’an sanction death for apostasy. However, scholars such as S. A. Rahman reject Mawdudi’s interpretation.
Apostasy in Islam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not just this source but just search for his views on apostasy, and you will know. also, search for his views on ahmadis, issuing fatwas, encouraging violence.

And yes maududi’s books can be found in many homes, including the home I grew up in! I have read his books since I was very young. Also, I have come across many many jamat eislami supporters, almost all of them are maududi supporters as well so yes i have always heard ALOT about him. perhaps too much. what bothered me most about him and JI was the view on ahmadis.. And no I donot come from Ahmadi background.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Someone wrote about good story telling being a nice attribute for a religious writer. As a kid, I just loved C Rajagopalachari's books on Ramayana and Mahabharata. He wrote so beautifully that the characters literally jumped out of the pages.

For example, the chapter Karna and Bhima is etched in the mind decades later.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Like him? I don’t know him well enough to like him or hate him as an individual. I like his format of tafsir. And I say this generally…that liking someone’s work…be it a novel or whatever does not automatically imply that the person knows the artist/author very well…nor does it automatically imply that the person agrees with every thing the person says and does in their life.

I would humbly suggest that you do research on what the vast majority of scholars have to say, you can look into the rulings of the 4 madhabs, and you can study the life or seerah of the prophet SAWS. After all this research, …look within your heart to decide what kind of a religion Islam is overall.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

oh no, not the apostasy thread all over again.
im not talking about the prophet here at all, and yes i know scholars have different views. thats exactly why I posted about Maududi. and no im not even saying anything about islam here, i just mentioned this one particular scholar/writer. im only talking about him, and his twisted views, NOT the religion or prophet. I think you misunderstood.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Well, much to your vexation, I discussed it again for two reasons. One that you brought up the murtad issue again. And secondly as a sort of a closure to the apostasy debate, at least from my end. You can find those in support of the ruling Maududi...and those who don't. Do your research before forming an overall conclusion. That's all. Even with myself, I'm not gonna shun the guy before reading up on him. I'm gonna go clean up my last post a bit. I don't want Muqaw's thread to be derailed further by other visitors.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

Mufti's Menk's seerah of the Prophet SAWS. I think it includes about 30 videos. Have yet to finish it, but it's easy to listen to. I find it interesting how we differ in which speakers we gravitate toward most.

Re: Your Favorite Writer on Religion?

But Arabs also converted :D
