LOL the Babysitters Club. I used to love reading those books. I loved Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High too. I liked Dawn from the BSC. I used to think she was really ‘unique’. I used to read Goosebumps too but I didn’t have a particular favourite character. I preferred the show Goosebumps over the books though.
As for what these characters would be like as adult-that’s what fanfiction is for I’ve read some interesting BSC fanfics about the characters when they’re older. And there’s this new series that’s come out-Sweet Valley Confidential. It’s supposed to cover the lives of the Wakefield twins in their late 20’s/30’s I think.
After rereading some of these YA books, I’ve realized most of them were pretty silly and poorly written. The characters were actually pretty annoying. But it’s fun to read back and snark over them. I used to visit the Dairi Burger regularly to read the blogger’s snarky reviews of various books in the SVH series. There are other blogs too that cover other YA novels from the 80’s/90’s through the eyes of an adult.
Lol i was an avid reader of these three series'. The Babysitters Club books my older sister read and that's how i got into them. But i don't remember the characters very well now :(
Sweet Valley Twins, as a kid i read the kids series, then moved up to the series where they were in sixth grade and then i'm not sure why but i skipped the high school series and went straight to the university one lol. I remember not liking Jessica, i thought she was really selfish, but although Elizabeth was nicer, she was a bit too uptight and self righteous to like much lol. You know there's a saga too? It tells the story of the twins' ancestors from both maternal and paternal sides, i enjoyed the sagas :).
Hopefully as adults, Jessica would have matured somewhat cos she always seemed to be in trouble of some sort. In the uni series she got married on a whim and it didn't last long.
Elizabeth i imagine would be married now, maybe to Todd lol. I imagine her life would be pretty sorted and she'd have an idea of what she wants and where she wants to go.
I also read a lot of Enid Blyton books. You know how on the front of her books her name would be written as her signature? The E looked like a G and as a kid i thought her name was actually Gnid. Once at school during assembly, the headteacher named some of blyton's books and asked us if knew who the author was. Thank goodness for being a shy kid and not telling him it was Gnid Blyton.
I think the characters from the Famous Five series would all still be close to one another but doing their own thing. Julian would probably be in some position of responsibility. Dick would be working for the police. George too methinks. And Anne would probably be married and maybe a teacher lol. And the dog, Timmy? Maybe have found a lady dog and had some kids lol.
And the kids from the Faraway Tree series would've have moved into the city and forgotten all about their childhood adventures on the tree :(. Same for the kids in the Wishing Chair series.
p.s Sara i just noticed your new avator, you're a Glee fan:)?
