Share with us one of your most favourite piece of poetry. Something that you enjoy every single time you read or hear. Here is mine by Ahmad Faraz. I absolutely adore each and every sher in this ghazal. :slight_smile:

Ranjish hi sahi dil hi dukhaanay kay liyay aa
aa phir say mujhay chhorr kay jaanay kay liyay aa

pehlay say maraasim na sahi phir bhi kabhi to
rasm-o-rahay duniya hi nibhaanay kay liyay aa

kis kis ko bataayengay judaai kaa sabab ham
tu mujh se khafaa hai to zamaanay kay liyay aa

kuchh to meri pindaar-e-mohabbat ka bharam rakh
tu bhi to kabhi mujh ko manaanay kay liyay aa

ek umr say hun lazzat-e-giryaa se bhi mehruum
aye raahat-e-jaan mujh ko rulaanay kay liyay aa

ab tak dil-e-khush_feham ko tujh say hain ummeedain
ye aakhari shammain bhi bujhaanay kay liyay aa

But … the title says Your absolute favourite ghazal and you said in thread Share with us one of your most favourite piece of poetry, so it can be only Ghazal or Nazam as well … ?

my all time favourite:

ay mohabbat tere anjaam pey ronaa aayaa
jaane kyon aaj tere naam pey ronaa aayaa

yun to har shaam ummidon mein guzar jaati thi
aaj kuchh baat hai jo shaam pe ronaa aayaa

kabhi taqdiir kaa maatam kabhi duniya kaa gila
manzil-e-ishq mein har gaam pey ronaa aayaa

**jub huaa zikr zamaane mein mohabbat kaa ‘Shakeel’
mujh ko apane dil-e-naakaam pe ronaa aayaa

Aankhon se meri is liye lali nahin jati
Yaadon se koi raat jo khali nahin jati

Ab umar na mosam na wo rastay ke wo paltay
Is dil ki magar khaam khayali nahin jati

Mangy tu agar jaan bhi hans kar tujhe de don
Teri to koi baat bhi tali nahin jati

Aaye koi aa k yeh dard sanbhaalay
Hum se to yeh jaageer sanbhaali nahin jati

Maaloom humain bhi hain tere buhat se qissay
Har baat teri hum se uchhaali nahin jati

Humraah tere phool khilati thi jo dil mein
Ab shaam wohi dard se khaali nahin jati

Hum jaan se jaain gay tabhi baat bany gi
Tum se to koi raah nikaali nahin jati…

Ghazals are all good and very entertaining.

There is no particular one can choose and say yes this is the only one.

If I put my favorite ghazals from so many singers, then the thread will get too long in few minutes. :slight_smile:

I think no one can still beat Mehdi Hasan Ghazals and his selections in Ghazals.

Let’s start with him. Can’t get enough of his talent.
