Younus resigns over fixing claims

**Younis Khan has offered to quit as captain of Pakistan in the wake of allegations of match-fixing in the semi-final against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, a defeat that led to the team’s exit from the tournament. The offer was made during a meeting of the National Assembly at which the Champions Trophy issue was being discussed, Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, told Cricinfo.
**

** Butt would not confirm whether he would accept or reject the decision but said he would discuss it with Younis.
**

The head of Pakistan’s parliamentary committee on sport had accused the team of deliberately losing to Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy in a group match and called for changes in the national cricket board. He also said he would summon the board chief and captain before parliament. **
** Younis, who had earlier insisted he continued enjoying captaincy, was upset
about the allegations and said it was disappointing that they had been made without any concrete proof.

**The ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit has been investigating Pakistan’s matches against Australia and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. **

Younus resigns over fixing claims

** Younus resigns over fixing claims **

**Younus Khan has resigned as Pakistan captain, despite being cleared of match-fixing charges by a parliamentary sports committee.**

The batsman submitted his resignation to Ijaz Butt, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Tuesday.
Younus, 31, was attending a hearing to discuss Pakistan’s performance in the recent ICC Champions Trophy.
National Assembly committee chairman Jamshed Dasti had alleged that Pakistan deliberately under-performed.
Younus told the Reuters news agency: "Yes I have submitted my resignation because I am disgusted by these match-fixing allegations made against me and the team.
“I have told the chairman to go through my resignation and read my point of view.”
Butt added: “At this stage I can only say if he sticks to his decision then his resignation would be discussed by the governing council of the board at its next meeting on 19 October.”
**Dasti insisted the committee never intended to make match-fixing allegations against the players.
“We are totally satisfied with the explanation of the team management and board,” he said. “The committee is satisfied no match-fixing took place.” **
Younus has scored 5,260 runs in 63 Tests - at an average over 50 - since making his debut against Sri Lanka in 2000, and succeeded Shoaib Malik as Pakistan captain in January 2009.
He has also appeared in 194 one-day internationals and led Pakistan to victory at the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in England earlier this year - before retiring from Twenty20 internationals.

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

^ More than Younis Khan it is Dasti who is reponsible for this mess and should be held acountable.

^ yes he is the one who started all this drama.

However, who will hold him accountable?

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

Just shocked as well as embarrassed…as a nation, we have lowest possible ethical standards…..we want an excuse for everything….we can never be defeated except match fixing!…..there has to be an excuse for everything so that we don’t have to go through an introspection exercise…we are jealous of each other…we love to make heroes but once we create them, our jealousy forces us to make them zero as soon as possible….4 months ago, younis won us the world cup but now he is a ****ing match fixer!….if wasim akram does not play the quarter final amid an injury, he is a match fixer….now if younis shows courage and plays with an injury (because his team wanted him to play), he is also a match fixer!….we brought him infront of a senate commitiee to answer..answer about what….and answerable to an idot like dustee?…and who is this other guy Dr. Shah…and now that younis has resigned, we will be upset with him and will call him unstable...of course he is unstable....he should not have any self respect or ego....

What made me even more embarrassed was the way we treated taufel…..we openly ridiculed Simon Taufel who is considered to be one of the best umpires….we blamed him for match fixing as well….what kind of cheap people are we….we have no self respect but he has one….

what must be Simon Taufel thinking about it all….but hey we taught him a lesson…didn’t we…one wrong decision mate and that is it….you are a cheap ******* who took the money……don’t ever dare umpiring in our match….don’t you know Simon, we never lose….either we do match fixing or umpires take money but no one can defeat us….we are pakis…didn’t you hear us singing Hum Hain Pakistani Hum Toh Jeetay Gay Jeetay Gay……….yeah we are beggars as well asking for money on every forum and the world has created a club Friends of Pakistan to help us but hey we have a very high ego…. Because Hum Hain Pakistani Hum Toh Jeetay Gay Jeetay Gay… Hum Hain Pakistani Hum Toh Jeetay Gay Jeetay Gay… Hum Hain Pakistani Hum Toh Jeetay Gay Jeetay Gay.......

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

Now can media start blaming Dasti for making a noise for nothing? Shouldn't they be questioning Dasti for farting in public?

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

Dasti is responsible for all this and I hope main stream media has courage (and will) to make the point here but I doubt that they will just use it to increase their eye-balls ratings.

On the other hand, I guess its about time that we have a emotionally stable captain even if that means we have to take a step back. I am fed up of "ammi is nai maira khilona lai leya" "abbu iss nai mujhey dhakka dai deya" attitude of Younus Khan. He is Pakistan's captain and should behave like one ignoring idiots like dasti instead of throwing resignation (or threat to resign) on every small issue that can be ignored easily.

oh ok...thank you sir....so it is a small issue....a senator called him a match fixer....asked him to come give an explanation....insulted him so much...but hey it is a small thing....he should move on......

Off course its a SMALL thing if you see it in the CONTEXT. He is the CAPTAIN of Pakistani team and these things are the pack and parcel of it. If he is is so sensitive that he take some jokers seriously (which he is btw), he should step aside.

remember, when you walk of the street tu KUTTEY tu bhonktey hee hain, you are not suppose to reply to every kutta

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

Minister sports asks PCB not to accept Younis’s resignation - GEO.tv

Why isnt the minister asking that idiot Dasti to apologise.

Janab, I agree that in the past, he has been too emotional on trivial issues but this is not a trivial one…we should not accept it as a part & parcel of Pakistani cricket…someone needs to take stand to let people know that match fixing saga is over for god sake…no one does match fixing in international cricket anymore…..it is simply too risky with ICC anti-corruption units everywhere….just 2 months ago, when we were losing against sri lanka, there were speculations of match fixing in the Pakistani media…when will it stop!khan is a pathan and he is little too emotional but he plays from his heart and he should resign on this one…it is extremely disrespectful to call him a match fixer…

You are just supporting my point. I believe HE should be the one standing up saying shut the **** up Mr. Dasti but what does he do instead? resigns.
My friend, in this dog-eat-dog world, resignation is almost next to plea guilty.

apologies? he should be punished for wrong accusation without proof. I believe there also is a law for this. For once, CJ should take somoto action this

Re: Younus resigns over fixing claims

Does Pak have anti-defamation laws ? Can Younis not file an anti-defamation case against Dasti ?

yes we have quiet a STRICT law and thats what I was saying that Younus should drag Dasti to court instead of resigning. As per Pakistan's law, if you accuse someone and then is unable to prove it, you get royal chitrol !

a valid point....he should actualy drag dasti into the court but dasti may say that I never blamed him....i just asked for an explanation....you know how courts work....it gets really technical in courts but I see your point...instead of resigning, he should drag dasti to the court.
