**KARACHI: Dismissing the possibility of a personal grudge with Younus Khan, Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chairman, Ijaz Butt claims the former captain is still under consideration for the team along with batting maestro Muhammad Yousuf ahead of the Test series against England starting later this week.

Younus, despite getting his indefinite ban overturned, failed to make it to the national squad for the England tour and this trigged speculations of his rift with the PCB chairman. Butt has however dismissed the notion that he has personal vendetta with the Younus.

“I have no personal rift with Younus neither do I have any personal bias against him” Butt told The Express Tribune from London. Instead, Butt claims that he had always rated Younus as a world class batsman.

Butt denies that he had the biggest reservations against having the former captain back in the team following an exchange of bitter statements between the cricket board and Younus’ lawyer after the indefinite ban.

“This is wrong, I am not trying to stop Younus’ inclusion; his selection for the series against England is possible”, he said before adding that former captain was still an asset for the national side despite going through a rough patch in his career. The PCB chairman said that he was in very good terms with the Younus but his lawyer Ahmed Qayyum made the relations bitter by giving statements against the PCB.

“I was in very good terms with Younus but unfortunately his lawyer made things worse by giving non-sense statements,” he said before adding that he will return to Pakistan early next month to review the case for the batsman’s indefinite ban. “I will return in the first week of August and will look into the case to settle down the issue,” said Butt.

Not up to the chairman

Butt has made it clear that Younus and Yousuf’s inclusion in the national squad will be decided with the mutual consent of team management that will comprises of Test captain Salman Butt, coach Waqar Younis and manager Yawar Saeed.

The chairman also confirmed that only Younus and Yousuf are being considered for the Test series against England starting July 29, ending Misbahul Haq’s chances of returning to the national team.

‘Youngsters to be given preference’

Butt claims that the experienced duo of Yousuf and Younus is not an automatic choice and that the team’s young players will be given preference in team selection for series against England.

“Yousuf and Younus are under consideration but we will only select them if we will feel their need as we would like to go with the youngsters”, he said while adding that youngsters, especially Azhar Ali played major role in the memorable Test win against Australia.

“We should look forward rather than looking backward until and unless we are prompted to that because of lack of choice,” said Butt.

I cant wait. He is one of the most sincere people in Pak cricket team. They are talking about the spot vacated by Afridi.

Butt will make a decision when he returns to Pakistan "early next month". That rules out Younis for the first, and perhaps the second Test. Of course this can't be helped because Butt absolutely has to be in Pakistan to be able to make that decision.

If only technology had been invented that could allow people to talk/meet with other people and review documents while being in a different country!

You said it. After all it's not like stupid BUTT is planning a joint military strategy against Taliban....and thank god for that! so HAS to be in Pakistan..

Younis Khan did what Imran Khan would have done i.e. sue PCB for baseless charges.

Younis' lawyers won him the case but forgot the wrath of BUTT and how the system in Pak is not the same as UK.

People of Pakistan along with PCB needs to get something in their head.

Bringing Younis and Yousuf back is not a step backward. Excluding seniors so early and at the stage where they can still perform is dangerous. Pakistan will not only be inconsistent, but will again repeat the mistake of post WC 2003 where all of the seniors where let go or their inclusion was considered a backward step. It destroyed Cricket Pakistan where the youngster did not have the help and guidance of their seniors.

but Yousuf is retired, isn't he? even though he will unretire if Pakistan wants him back but otherwise he is retired. so, isn't he retired for now at least? in which case how are you supposed to pick a retired player?

and Younis would have been playing in the team if his lawyer wasn't such a moron-ibne-moron. if Younis is such an upstanding gentleman, then he should have known better than to pick as his lawyer the son of Malik Qayyum whose name is synonymous with lying, corruption and dishonesty. jaisa baap waisaa baita. it's obvious that Younis' legal team leaked the clips of the PCB hearings to the media. Younis is no gentleman in my book. and he apparently doesn't get along with the new captain Sally Butt. even though some 90% of the team doesn't get along with him... or maybe he doesn't along with 90% of the team. so, I don't see why he should come back.

It IS a backward step to get either of the 2 back. They will obviously cause problems in the dressing room. Team spirit is extremely important and these two won't help. Also can I remind everyone that both of them HAVE NOT been in good form in the last few games they did play for Pakistan. Stick with the newbies, they seem to be decent prospects.

All of the disciplinary issues have been proven wrong and nothing but baseless accusations. Yousuf retired because he had to save his dignity rather being dragged into mud like previous senior players. The current team is filled with real trouble makers so there is inconsistency when you just single out Younis and Yousuf.

There is a negative publicity against the two seniors and it is really sad that Pakistanis are falling for it.

how exactly have the charges been proven wrong? when the same charges are made against Malik, everyone believes it as if they were there physically when Malik was plotting, etc.

did Yousuf not take an oath to remove Younis? why does practically the whole team Younis over his attitude?

Yousuf didn't "retire" for saving his dignity. he has no dignity or respect left... he "retired" because he is a crybaby and a drama queen.

There is more to it than meets the eye. The two Y's on merit alone no doubt belong in the team. But what can't be quantified is the baggage they bring with them and the impact of their inclusion on team spirit and Butt's captaincy. Therefore, I wouldn't mind seeing them wait a bit longer till we see how this new look batting pans out.

You guys are believing everything that comes out of PCB office and Butt's mouth.

With all of the things and backtracking by PCB, how can one possibly think that PCB is one on the right side?

Its hard and probably impossible to debate and put across a different point of view when you just keep repeating like the bottom line slides on a News Channel.

The whole plot against Yousuf and in particular Younis started just after we lost the Semi-Final against New Zeland in Champions Trophy. Accusation was that match was fixed especially the one against Australia. Accusation was put forward by Jamshed Dasti who than was found a fake degree holder.
