Younis wants bowlers with pace for WC
KARACHI, Nov 18: **Pakistan’s bowling coach Waqar Younis will hold a training camp for upcoming fast bowlers after the West Indies series to spot pace talents for the 2007 World Cup. **
With first choice pacemen Shoaib Akhtar and Mohamamd Asif staring at an uncertain future due to their doping bans, Younis is keen to have someone with speed added to the line up in time for the World Cup in the Caribbean.
“We are not short on talent in the pace department but what I am looking for is a bit of a pace before the World Cup. We need to find a bowler with some pace because the future is uncertain for Shoaib and Asif,” he said.
Praising the work of Umar Gul and Shahid Nazir, who took 15 wickets in the first Test win over the West Indies in Lahore, he said they had shown a lot of improvement but he would like to have some pace in the bowling department.
**“I want to work for the future give the board two or three bowlers who are strong prospects and have a good future ahead of them,” the former fast bowling great said. **
**Younis also revealed that he was seriously considering taking up a job with Australian Sheffield Shield side New South Wales after the World Cup. **
Waqar said his former Surrey teammate and England batsman Graham Thorpe, who has joined NSW, had told him they were interested in signing him on as a bowling coach.
“It is an interesting offer but one I can only consider after my assignment with the Pakistan Cricket Board ends with the World Cup,” said Waqar who formed one of the best new ball attacks in cricket history with Wasim Akram, the duo taking over 750 Test wickets between them.

If Pakistans performance in the World cup is same as it was in the ICC Champions trophy than I can see a him going to Australia as the offer may be more lucrative.
Even if they find someone with pace I am not sure if there is enough time left to polish someones talent before the World cup unless someone is exceptionally good. Also, will Mr Inzmam take a risk or allow someone to get selected for the squad?
These sort of camps should have been held much earlier in order to find the type of bowlers they were looking for and allow them time to get experience with the team.
