Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

Someone commented,

Sir jee.. Younis Khan is not a batsman… I have only seen him making runs against India.. He’s only a good fielder and that’s that…

Quite an idiotic comment, I must say.

Let’s look at his test batting averages in all countries (that is playing in a
country, not against a country)

Pakistan
Mat I NO Runs HS1 HS2 HS3 Ave 100 50 0
Pak 15 28 1 1320 199 194 124 48.88 4 5 2

Aus 3 6 0 259 87 46 44 43.16 0 1 0

Eng 5 9 0 470 173 65 62 52.22 1 3 0

S Africa 5 10 1 305 68 67* 46 33.88 0 2 1

NZL 3 5 1 280 149* 91 36 70.00 1 1 1

SL 5 7 2 287 116 73* 35 57.40 1 1 1

Ind 3 6 1 508 267 147 84* 101.60 2 1 1

WI 5 9 0 211 106 43 31 23.44 1 0 2

His poor record in WI can be attributed to 1999-00 series where he failed. In the next series in WI, he averaged around 40-50 runs and hit a century.

Besides, the last two successful run-chases in test cricket for Pakistan involved Younis Khan - the series winning innings against SL in SL (only team other than Aus to beat SL in SL) and the one against RSA in RSA.

In fact, I’d say that of all Pakistani batsmen ever, Younis Khan has the most evenly distributed batting performance in all parts of the world. Truly a remarkable achievement.

Now I hope I haven’t jinx’d him and that he goes on to hit a double hundred tomorrow.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

I cant believe he is on trian after every series, its rediculious! He is an established batsman and its highly disrespectful where he has to defend his place in the team every series, the innings he plaes yesterday was pure class! and a pressure innings as always!

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

It might be intresting to see his numbers in AUS and SA? But I agree that he has done enough to not justify his place after each inning. He is the best batsman pakistan has in this test match.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

The numbers are there. The batting averages are listed based on the country he played the match in. He averages 48.88 in Pakistan and 43.16 in Australia, for example.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

There's no doubt in my mind that Younis is a good batsman - and as far as I'm concerned, he has his place in both the Test and ODI formats of the game. He usually has a couple of off-days in a row which is why people start discounting his abilities... but when he comes back, he comes back with a bang!

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

in a sentence you can define him as a "good batsman but not a reliable one"

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

You can say anything in a sentence. Doesn't mean that has any bearing on reality. I am giving you statistics of what he has done in every single country. If his consistent averages in all corners of this planet is not about reliability, then what is ?

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

Younis Khan has a higher batting average batting in Aus and SA than Inzi and Yousuf. That clearly goes to show you the capabilities of the man...and his technique on swinging and bouncy pitches.

But, he is always critisized for no apparent reason. He will have one bad game and people are ready to chop his head off. In the second innings, he showed why he is among the top 10 batsman in the world at the moment..the way he took the attack to the SA bowlers while chasing 424 tells you about his fighting, positive, and never give up attitude.

To top it off, he has been fasting through this whole test match. After fielding for so many hours yesterday in the hot weather, the way he came out and batted, ran between the wickets with so much energy makes this innings even more impressive.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

Younis is a world class batsman. I don't know why some douchebags (some on this forum included) fail to realize this. We only have Yousuf, Younis and Akhtar left as three genuine test match stars; let's cherish them while we can.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

younis khan is one of the best players pakistan has ever got reason i say that is that he has justified his position in the team everytime may it be test, one day and to my surprise even T20 (when playing agressively is not his game) him and Shoaib Malik genuinely play for the team and stand up for it every given chance other than a few and thus both of them are really under rated.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

Agreed.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

He always failed under pressure recently - giving his wickets when we needed the most and then the collapse... he disappoints more or perhaps we expect more from him from palying idiotic shots to get out - either by touching a ball moving out or playing it into the wicket... A class batsman for sure - Tendulkar is a class batsman too - though some may consider him in a different league ...

I will be the most happiest person if younis makes pakistan win tomorrow (or today as it is morning in Pakistan)

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

There's no doubting Younis's class. The one criticism I have of him though is that he sometimes throws his wicket away when he's well set, needlessly hooking or pulling rather than playing the ball on the ground. Aerial shots are not really his game (although he's quite capable of hitting sixes) and they often lead to his downfall

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

Last but not the least Younis Khan's overall test batting average of 48.60 is bettered only by Mohammad Yousuf (56.00), Miandad (52.57) and Inzi (50.07) among PAK batsmen. He averages more than Saeed Anwar (45.52), Zaheer Abbas, the legendary Hanif Mohammad (43.98) and Saleem Malik (43.69) which is saying something.

Younis currently has 4423 runs in 54 tests with 13 test hundreds.

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

His overall stats in South Africa

5 matches - 305 runs - 33.88 avg.- 2 fifties - highest 68

His recent record against them in South Africa (taking out the 2002 series)
3 matches - 226 runs - 45.2 avg. - 2 fifties - highest 68

His stats in Australia

3 matches - 259 runs - 43.16 avg. - 1 fifty - highest 87

Re: Younis Khan's test averages in cricket playing nations

and he showed in the second innings in this karachi test why pakistan needs him. had there been at least one more good innings from someone else, pakistan would not have lost the match.
