Someone commented,
Sir jee.. Younis Khan is not a batsman… I have only seen him making runs against India.. He’s only a good fielder and that’s that…
Quite an idiotic comment, I must say.
Let’s look at his test batting averages in all countries (that is playing in a
country, not against a country)
Pakistan
Mat I NO Runs HS1 HS2 HS3 Ave 100 50 0
Pak 15 28 1 1320 199 194 124 48.88 4 5 2
Aus 3 6 0 259 87 46 44 43.16 0 1 0
Eng 5 9 0 470 173 65 62 52.22 1 3 0
S Africa 5 10 1 305 68 67* 46 33.88 0 2 1
NZL 3 5 1 280 149* 91 36 70.00 1 1 1
SL 5 7 2 287 116 73* 35 57.40 1 1 1
Ind 3 6 1 508 267 147 84* 101.60 2 1 1
WI 5 9 0 211 106 43 31 23.44 1 0 2
His poor record in WI can be attributed to 1999-00 series where he failed. In the next series in WI, he averaged around 40-50 runs and hit a century.
Besides, the last two successful run-chases in test cricket for Pakistan involved Younis Khan - the series winning innings against SL in SL (only team other than Aus to beat SL in SL) and the one against RSA in RSA.
In fact, I’d say that of all Pakistani batsmen ever, Younis Khan has the most evenly distributed batting performance in all parts of the world. Truly a remarkable achievement.
Now I hope I haven’t jinx’d him and that he goes on to hit a double hundred tomorrow.
