He recently scored a century for South Australia against Queensland as an opener
Cricinfo - Queensland v South Australia at Brisbane, Nov 28-Dec 1, 2008
though 1 inning is never enough to make decision ..
but can Pakistan try Younis as opener in test cricket ?

Re: Younis Khan in Australia
^ Isn't he an opener for Pakistan already anyway? Like one of the so-called opener gets out in 1st 10 overs and the next batsman (usually Younis) walks in.
BTW, did you check Younis' previous performance in Australia? :D

We have been this route before. Do you recall how many times he had to face the new ball because of the infinite chances we had to give to the never-ending cycle of Butt/Hafeez/Farhat? He was opening the innings then, more often that now. The current pair of Butt/Akmal is far from being settled and with Khurram Manzoor/Nasir Jamshed being mixed in the equation, I am not sure if Younis Khan will be given a chance up the order. Though from the number of times he faced the new ball, one would think the opening dilemma would be solved now.

He was the butt of jokes (with due respect to Salman Butt). :D

well after Yousaf gone to ICL ...
i guess Malik should promote him self up the order at number 3 .....
n Misbah should come at number 4 ...
so that we can have a place for talent like Asim Kamal at number 5 ..
and akmal and afridi/alam at number 6 and 7
that can only be done if Malik or Younis decides to come as an opener ......

Valid point.
Even during the era of Inzamam, Imran Khan stressed the need to have the captain be a part of top 4, and Inzamam being Inzamam never gave himself the opportunity up the order. The trend is continuing even now with Shoaib Malik coming at 3-down. What you mentioned is a litmus test for any captain.
We have to play cricket first in order to have a discussion on who is opening the innings and whatnot.

He was more of a conservative captain, his thoughts were "what if there is a collapse in middle order" so he kept himself low in the order to play the 'captain`s knock' which we saw save us our behind couple of times, like against Bengladesh :D
Re: Younis Khan in Australia
Well done younis!! He is proving that he is ready to b Pakistans main batsman after yousuf ran away to ICL!
