Younis Khan as captain

I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I figured I’d try to get an organized discussion going…

I like Inzimam as our captain right now because everyone has a lot of respect for him, and he has made our players more compassionate and caring about the game.

Inzimam has changed the composure of the team psychologically, which has relfected in their mental toughness as well as their physical skills.

However, change can be good… and after we win the World Cup next year (lol), Inzimam will surely retire. I think Younis Khan will be the perfect fit for captaincy at that point because after the psychological impact of Inzimam, the team will need an attacking and motivating captain like Younis Khan to futher build team chemistry.

I know YK essentially “lost us the game” yesterday, but his captaincy the day before impressed me quite a bit. Especially when he put pressure on the tailenders with Danish Kaneria, and then got the new ball and put Shahid Nazir in. It was a refreshing change to see an agressive Pakistani squad.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Don’t pin your hopes on Inzamam retiring, he is a desi celebrity

Other than that, Younis Khan is a good prospect. In fact anyone can be better than Inzamam as captain in field, atleast won’t be worse. Younis Khan has shown us some sense in captaincy and hopefully will not change when he is finally handed over the responsibility.

Inzamam was able to gather support behind him by leading from front, if Younis can do that too then we surely will have a good fighting squad :insha:

Re: Younis Khan as captain

You saw how pathetic we were in losing the test series to England...What hope do you have for the World Cup?

I doubt Pakistan could win it all in the WC next year. Either way, after the WC, inzamam should give up captaincy and Younis Khan should take over.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

I totally agree with comments, regarding Younis as a proactive leader, Inzi as a respected leader and any one can be a better leader in the field, but for good leadership especially in the game of cricket you need a strong support from the management. We saw strong support from PCB for Imran and then presently for Inzi (only because our batting was so fragile without inzi) from PCB, so this made them respected leaders.

On other hand, no doubt YK is a good player (batsman, fielder and to some extent keeper) as well as a good leader, but he doesn't comand so much support from PCB, which we saw in WI when Afridi refused to bat as an opener, and no one took YK side and didn't punish Afridi.

I think who ever lead the side in a game, PCB should give full support (for everything) and power over 10 playing players during the game to that captain. He should be allowed to make any bowling or batting or fielding changes.

So far YK lead Pakistan in two side games and won both, and the lead Pakistan on day 4 and got England out despite opening start of 160+ as a result of droping Trescothic twice at total score of less than 30 by Akmal. I think Inzi should stay in team, but should volunteerly support YK for captain and play as a master batsman in the side for as long as he could scores runs.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

I wouldn't bank on Inzi retiring after the WC. All our cricketing legends (except Imran) had to be sacked and disgraced before they decided to hang up their boots.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

For God's sake. World Cup is not everything in cricket and I don't want Pakistan to win WC if they are not the best team in the world. Its an exciting tournament full of high level energy and entertainment, but consistancy and class is something Pakistan should be concerntrating for next 5 years atleast. Instead of ODI WC. We are producing gali-mohalla level openers that are putting team to miserable situations. Bowling department is satifactory with the addition of Rana and Asif to support Shoaib. But issues with openers and one batsman in middle order will be haunting us after WC.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

lol...

But just to clear something up- I was being sarcastic when I said that we would win the World Cup next year. I know the cricket world cup is nothing like the world cup of football. I mean, I would love to see Pakistan win the world cup, but like the rest of you, I'd be more content with a more stable and consistent team over a longer period of time.

I hope Younis Khan doesn't get caught up in the politics of Pakistan cricket. Our sad political structure in the sport has haunted and ruined the careers of so many would-be legends.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

The day Yk will be made captain,Inzamam will retire automatically a,la Afridi, lol

Re: Younis Khan as captain

^So True...but I think he'll retire after World Cup.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Agree with everyone on Younis khan taking over the captaincy from Inzi after the WC but I still think that Inzi is good enough to carry on playing as a test batsman until 2008/9. He deserves to be in the side as long as he 's scoring runs. May he become the first PAK batsman to reach 10,000 test runs inshallah

Re: Younis Khan as captain

that would be nice, but apparently inzimam will only play for pakistan if he's the captain.

that's what the rumor mill's been churnin'

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Over all Inzi has done a good job, with the help of the think tank and other senior players, He has done a fantastic job so far, Yes we lost couple of test matches recently which resulted in the loss of series but overall his captaincy record is pretty good, not to mention that when Pakistan team was in tatter's due to various reasons in the past; teams not visiting, aftermath of WC'03 (players were shredded like they were weeds in the grass).

We all know who will be the successor when Inzi decide to bow out, whenever that time is (I think right after the WC'07) we will have Younis Khan ready to man a team.

Apparently in the light of PCB release the pool of players for ICC championship; some more players will become senior and some hopefully will never see.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Do u people seriously think that any team in the World can win a Tournament like World Cup with a captain like Inzamam,NO chance ,it,s Cruel but true.Look at the captains who have won this tournament in the past,Clive loyd,Alan Border,Imran Khan,Ranatunga,Steve Waugh, Where do our INZI stand?

Re: Younis Khan as captain

^World Cup Final
Pakistan V. Australia
Australia needs 12 runs from 6 balls.
Gilchrist and Lee batting with Gilchrist facing.
Guess what? Arshad Khan brought into the attack.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

lol @ arshad khan.:D

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Give it a rest guys damn you guys are riding Inzi's azz, we sure have some negative fans when the team wins oh Pakistan this Pakistan thatbut when we lose it's like the end of the world common guys its just one series some one has to win and our team cannot be the winners everytime. As far as the Younis issue is yes he is a good captain but make him captain after the WCup let Inzi handle things and i can guarrantee you we will thrash England in the last test and the One day Series who Wants to bet.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

^I do...lol.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Not all captains will be bubbly and "happening" in the field; you have to accept that fact. However, I see a more pro-active captain in making good cricketing decisions in Younis Khan (this doesn't mean Inzi doesn't know his cricket). Our team will be in safe hands once Inzi departs.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Game Shut It up bro, sala Jumma jumma 8 din hoi cricket dekhtai hoii and trying to talk like an expert. Cricket is a thinking game and if you make younis captain while inzi is around this will just set fire in the team. Plus inzi is the reason pakistan have won sooo many games if younis wants to do something rite now he needs to create a very good relationship with inzi and gain his trust then inzi will listen to him on and off the field i guaranteee you sir and stop bashing sami if ppl will start cathing he wouldn't be as bad as we think.

Re: Younis Khan as captain

Younis Khan is certainly very active in the field and very dedicated towards team's morable so he can become captain after the world cup when Inzi retires.
