He bailed on us when we needed him the most. Not sure if PCB has any dignity left or not.
Open your eyes PCB!! Shahid Afridi is the most obvious choice for VC.

I feel Younas was right at that time. and if he accepts being VC , it will be okay too, no blame on him this way if Selected Pakistani team (against wish of Capt.) will lose

I welcome this move. We can't have a non-performer like Butt as vice-captain. I know Younis does n't want the captaincy but his aggression, his enthusiasm, his innovations always come in handy every time the captain is off the field for some reason and that's a plus for the team. We saw yet more evidence of that in the second one-dayer. Younis motivated the players, bucked them up and we won despite the horrible fielding (dropped something like 6 catches)

Afridi is not an automatic selection in tests esp. on seaming wickets where neither his batting nor his bowling is useful. I would probably always play him in tests matches in the sub-continent and to be fair to Afridi, he did perform with both bat and ball (esp. the last test in Bangalore which we won to level the series 1-1 http://uk.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2004-05/PAK_IN_IND/SCORECARDS/PAK_IND_T3_24-28MAR2005.html) when we toured India in 2005

I don't agree with the comment on Afridi... but to appoint Younis as a VC, means that Pakistan will be unable to groom anyone else to be captain. Younis is a fine VC, but since he has already demonstrated that he won't become a captain, my guess is that this is likely a short term solution, till the Board figures out a youngster who is a long term prospect and who can hold his place in the team. There is no urgency, of course, since Shoaib Malik himself is very young and, if everything goes according to plan, he will last us as captain for many many years.

^ agree to everything you say there but what if Malik himself has a change of heart at some stage in the coming months esp. if the results don't go in his favour? Remember we have no easy series in the near future, India is going to be tough and Australia (well if we are honest we all know the result beforehand) Noone in India was expecting Dravid to quit captaincy so soon and the Indian cricket board officials (by their own admission) were caught on the back foot. So from that perspective it is n't such a bad move. Younis could always step in if Malik decided against continuing as captain at some stage and I think it would be very difficult for Younis then to reject captaincy a second time.

I remember when we were struggling to appoint a vc after Younis' withdrawal, someone sarcastically said that lets make younis khan vc. ( Decent 6chora said that if my memory serves me right).

I don't think one needs to perform on a consistant basis to be appointed a leader. Its all about communication skills, intelligence, and enthusiasm. Afridi has all of that. I think he deserves a shot.
And Younis is no doubt an effective VC and could prove to be a tremendous Captain; but why do we overlook the fact that his denial of taking on Captaincy post WC was a slap-in-the-face to the whole country. Pakistan Captaincy should be one of honour and he disrespected that position by flatly dening it. Afridi, with all the turmoil post WC, said that he would jump at the chance to lead his country. That, for me, shows what kind of passion he has for his team and his country.

I think its a good choice. He didn't want to be a captain but he is fine with being a VC. Plus it will be good for shoaib malik to have a senior member as his deputy. I believe players should have right to accept or refuse captaincy, yes it is an honor but if one doesn't want it or thinks he can serve better by not leading, then he should have right make this choice.

very good decision by the PCB. We all would have loved to see Afridi being named VC but the fact is that he is not an automatic selection for test matches and thus, he cannot be made VC. The recent Akhtar-Asif-Afridi saga didn't help his cause either.
Younis is the only automatic selection for both formats of the game except Yousuf. And believe me, we dont ever want to see Yousuf leading Pakistan at any time, he is worse than Inzi. Yousuf is a great batsman, but thats it. His qualities end there.
Until we have an upcoming youngster who can show some leadership qualities, we'll have to stick with Yunus as VC, and who knows, it could be a blessing in disguise as witnessed in the 2nd ODI vs SA.

But if we can all forgive (well most of us seem to any way) Razzaq after his admission that he made the decision in the heat of the moment then why can't we similarly give Younis the benefit of doubt because he did lose his metre (more likely with him anyway!) after being made to wait for a fair bit of time in the chairman's office?

Razzaq's case is different; he 'retired' because he couldn't play/serve for Pakistan. Younis declined to lead us.
When he waited in the chairman's office he was justified for being upset; promptly, shehryar khan was dismissed and in came nasim ashraf.

what grooming are you guyz talking about? Malik is only 26 at the moment. and who else is more deserving then younis to become the VC? Ya, for grooming Butt was given the apportunity, but what he did, just failed again with his batting. and as we saw in one of the ODIs, when malik was away, it was younis who lead the team and what a great job he did. Dont tell me afridi should be given the opportunity. First, he is no automatic selection for a test team, second he himself is not level headed when he come into bat, how would he lead the team in the absense of the captain? Younis is all good for team. Team looks good for upcoming indian series. Hope for the best.

Younis brings drama. Do not know whether he has changed his ways or not. He would make a terrific captain and leader. Every player seems to like him and opponents have shown respect to his captaincy skills. It will be interesting to see how much of a help he would be to Malik.
I would have gone with Gull or Asif. We need a bowler. Our kaptan saab seems to not know how to utilize his bowlers. Asif becharee to ghaseet kar khatam kar diya.
