**Young could be stripped of his 2000 Olympic gold medal **
US Olympic officials have confirmed that American sprinter Jerome Young failed a drugs test a year before winning a gold medal at the 2000 Games.
Previously, the US Olympic Committee had declined to name the athlete involved in the positive test.
The International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency have been looking into allegations that Young tested positive for nandrolone in 1999 but was cleared on appeal by US officials.
Young could now lose his 4x400m relay gold medal if the International Association of Athletics Federations rules that he was ineligible to compete in Sydney.
IOC President Jacques Rogge called the confirmation a “crucial” development, and said the committee was asking athletics’ world governing body to investigate.
“The identification of the athlete is a major breakthrough,” said Arne Ljungqvist, anti-doping chief of the IAAF.
“The case can finally be evaluated and concluded.”
wow, isn’t it a bit tooo early to talk about this? they should have left it in the dark to rot for another century / two. simply pathetic. he was not only found gulity but they also let him participate in the olympics and on top of that kept it to themselves for almost 4 years. tells a lot about these people. :nook:
