I think ISNA is the main place that everyone knows about where you can meet up with the opposite sex.
There are others. There are groups on meetup dot com. I tried to start one myself there, which apparently now is active under the leadership of others.
Have you guys heard of “Muppies”? Those seem like WELL ORGANIZED events. I want to attend those.
Also Atlanta has a group : Atlanta Muslim Professionals or something or the other.
Anyone had good experiences with other networking groups? Do you go to these events just to make friends, forget just for rishta, but in general? For professional networking etc?
PCG- I have been to a few of these and I think in general they attract a good crowd and I have always enjoyed being there. I have not been to these in a long time because my focus has been industry specific groups, since my goal is more professional networking than social, and my field is somewhat specialized.
The events are very well done, as long as you are not looking for perfection, but I would say they have been at par with non desi/muslim events I have been to, people are open and friendly, and it is an educated, relatable crowd.
I've gone to CAMP events, some DIL stuff...out of sheer boredom and because it was something to do. My sisters and mom thought it would help me meet someone nice. And I am not gonna lie...I did meet some nice people. Its an educated crowd PCG and many have the same purpose of being there as you.
But I noticed one thing though...
If your purpose is to meet a guy you want to marry and be with...you need to arm yourself to find that guy. Look really good, dress sharp and put your best foot forward so you can attract the kind of man you want. People say looks don't matter but they do and how you present yourself in gatherings will inevitably determine what you will walk out with.
It may sound shallow of me to say this but its the truth.

i think look does matter when you meet someone the first time with a potential relationship in mind. The importance of look to decide the about the relationship status fades slowly with time and then we say look doesnt matter in marriage/love.
you can join mipsterz-- muslim hipsters, a good young crows who organize events based around islamic/other lectures and general hanging out. great stuff. i've heard good stuff about muppies too but in nyc they're more finance field based.
