Young indians and sprituality

Re: Young indians and sprituality

None of my friends/people i know who are brahmins eat non-veg other than one guy...:D...all are south indians!!!

Re: Young indians and sprituality

oye i'm not saying all or most brahimns are non-veg!! I'm saying most descendants of KPs and Bengali Brahmins are nonveg. Like I said some in saraswat brahmin subgroups choose to be veg too yaar like a few of my aunts are completely veg but some others are non veg. It's more of a personal choice

Re: Young indians and sprituality

arey:smack:…i didn’t say you are wrong and didn’t contradict what u said. that is why i said they are all south indians and not bengalis/KP’s. and i don’t know which sub group of brahmins eat non veg and which do not. THough All subgroups of brahmins i came across, don’t eat it. And with that, it means i haven’t come across subgroups!

Re: Young indians and sprituality

okie:@: but some KP descendants did migrate to some parts of south india too. Personally, all of this caste talk is making me sick to my stomach, let’s change the subject pleez. :bummer:

Re: Young indians and sprituality

Unfortunately when there is question of veg or non veg among indians, inevitably it has to bring in the subject of caste also!!..have to mention that some of the shaivaites also don’t eat non veg food.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

oh btw, hope all Indians had a happy Republic Day!! :)

Re: Young indians and sprituality

Very Happy Republic Day!

Well done India....India and Indians have made us all so proud !

Let us keep working on shrugging away any and all vestiges of colonialism.

It is worth it. We are worth it

Jai Bharath!

Sri Rama Jayam!

Re: Young indians and sprituality

No Indopak. Not talking about it enough is what had prolonged the bad side of casteism in many parts of India and amongst many Indians. That silence is also what has allowed certain vultures to prey upon naive people into conversion etc.

Why should it make one queasy? It was there, it led to some bad things and it is getting better now.

Every society and type of community - whether professional groups, ethnic groups, religious groups, affluence groups - had and have castes. Wherevere there is stratification, classification there is caste. It is caste based discrimination that is wrong, not castes themselves.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

^for the Dalits the caste system is a curse and now with all the reservations in India Brahmins are suffering a lot too so I wish and hope one day that the caste system can be completely edited out just like how in Christianity there was so much editing done as time went by with the old testament and the new testament.

I really do believe that the whole caste concept is a curse on Hinduism because there are so many great, wonderful aspects about the religion but like all religions there is also the bad.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

I hope you understand that Idid not mean anything from my earlier comment. Though it was in jest but I am seriously surprised to see that all of you who answered, no one is a ful time vegitarian. I had a vision that hindus mostly are veg. with minority being non-veg. :konfused:

Is this a serial co-incidence or is this group of people is not the fair representation of indian population ?

How much of the population back home (india) is complete vegitarian ?

Re: Young indians and sprituality

In laymans’ term the concept of Karma is if you do good things, good things will happen to you and if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you…Don’t want to compare but its pretty much like Islamic concept of good deeds and sins…The only difference is in Islam your are judged on the judgement day and in Hinduism you are judged constantly and you are rewarded or punished accordingly.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

In my friend circle (Indians)…I’d say 85% of them are non-veg and maybe 15% of them are veggies.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

coddy I know you were kidding with me yaar.:biggthumb I just thought I would give you the background info on the whole nonveg fish eating Brahmin issue.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

hey! I am a full time vegetarian

Re: Young indians and sprituality

^Who’s post are you talking about stircrasy?

I know most brahmins are veg but if it’s my post that you are reacting to then here’s some background history on the issue:

Re: Young indians and sprituality

  1. Do you go to mandir ? how often ?
    i am a atheist

  2. Do you believe and pray to a particular God or have statue at home
We do have many statue's at home (Elders worship i dont)

  3. Does your family home has a small room for prayers with statue and stuff ( just like they show in movie / drama ?
    Yep

4 Are you a vegitarian (shakahari ) due to religious reasons ?
I am from the warrior cast (Shatriya - Maratha) so we are allowed to have Non Veg, we cook non veg at least 3-4 times a week

  1. What family valuse are practised religiously in your family ? Just all of the usual Indian family values including touching the feet of elders when you first meet them, whole family never gave any importance to the caste system and they taught all the good things about Indian culture and never said anything derogatory about it. (Valued are the same so sopied from, indopak's post)

Re: Young indians and sprituality

I used to think i'm an atheist too and with how the world is today I was totally for it but one time somebody asked me a question of what I would do if I was in a life or death situation and there was absolutely no way out and i'm completely panic stricken, what would I do.....Honestly, at that point I actually realized I would seriously pray my butt off hoping I could somehow get to safety. So, i'm not an atheist I realized but i'm always wondering what an atheist would do in a situation like that. :) If you don't wanna answer, it's ok.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

I am a Atheist and i stick to it because I strongly feel that this world has come to existence on pure scientific basis the "God" Stuff are man made to bind a person to certain social believes

We humans have all these "In-securities" to counter them we need to have strong trust in a divine power that is god. I have realized that a person should have faith in something to survive in this world.

Re: Young indians and sprituality

but you didn't answer my question of what you would do if you encountered a life or death type situation, would you just let death come since there is absolutely no way out?

Re: Young indians and sprituality

I am mostly agree with what you say and I think the same way sometimes but on the other hand I have been brought up always beleiving in the "God" stuff so no matter how much science advances to prove everything in the world, there will always be a small corner in my mind which will believe in "God" and its divine power......But again I wish there was more proof that God existed. Being a lover of science, over the recent years I have been drifting away from the "God" stuff, but it is totally hard to take it off my system.....as some things still remain unanswered by science.
