YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

**When respondents were asked which party they would vote for if an election were held tomorrow, 66% said they would vote for the PTI.

** Just 9% said they would vote for PML-N, while PPP was chosen by 3%.
 81% of respondents chose Imran Khan from a list of 19 candidates as the person they think is best suited to lead Pakistan.
 Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of the PML-N, was chosen by 18%, while Asif Ali Zadari, the current President of Pakistan and Co-Chairman of the PPP, was chosen by 2%.

**The media and army seen as less corrupt

**There are two national institutions in which Pakistanis show notably more trust.

Respondents view the army as the least corrupt of national institutions, with only 21% saying that corruption is widespread. This figure should perhaps come as little surprise, when the army has so far remained united and disciplined since the nation’s founding in 1947. Pakistan was also born through a tragically violent process of partition from a subsequently much larger neighbour, with whom it later fought three major wars and countless skirmishes. As a result, the army has retained its identity in much of the public sphere as the guarantor of national survival, particularly against the backdrop of persistently weak and corrupt institutions of state.

Meanwhile, the media as a whole was ranked second by respondents as the least corrupt of national groups or institutions, with only 38% saying that it suffers from widespread corruption.

My comments: If translated into votes at the ballot box this would wipe out the traditional parties.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

There is no chance that Imran Khan could think of getting such a vote sadly. I can see him pulling votes from Northern Balochistan, Punjab ad Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but what about Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab?

I do not think the sample can any way be represenentative as the PPP has a very storng hold on many areas of Sindh, with some areas so feudal that they may not even have the decision who to vote for.

If the respondents feel the media and army is less corrupt, it does not mean that they are. If you mount up the facts then the army is probably the most corrupt.

It this a survey which is online, as it states at the bottom? If so it explains the strong support for IK, and less for PPP. I have not read all of it. It would be nice if he did wipe out both PML-N and PPP.

Fieldwork was undertaken in three waves (Wave 1: 4th-5th May, 2011 with a total sample-size of 1039; Wave 2: 4th-11th August, 2011 with a total sample-size of 1097; Wave 3: 5th-14th September, 2011, with a total sample-size of 1020) and is broadly representative of the online population in Pakistan. See here for full survey results of Wave 1, Wave 2 and Wave 3.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

PPP vote base is uneducated jahils who speak of the glory of ZAB some 40 years ago. However they would never vote for Zardari again after the mockery he has made out of Benazir's Death. Its close to 4 years and still no killers named.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

don't bet against it ... most PPP supporters can't see beyond the end of their nose

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Problem is that many voters will cast in electronic polls, but during actual polls they'd be sitting home watching TV. The total turnout during elections is usually very dismal but when results come out the same majority who is sitting home starts crying.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Most of Pakistan is uneducated. Being uneducated does not make you a less of a person. Most Sindhis may not like him but they do not believe he has made a mockery of her death. He has kept her image alive and he knows he wont last long, but more importantly he is paving the way for Bilawal.

As much as I dislike Zardari, he single handedly crushed the angry Sindhi's who wanted death to Pakistan when BB was killed. It was his support and what he said that has kept the federation alive until today. We saw how angry Sindh was and we could have lost it.

The PPP may not be much of a voice to Sindh ad southern Punjab but it is the only one. It is the only party with votes in all provinces.

By the way a number of educated people are very pro PPP too across Pakistan so its not just the party of the "jahils" as you state.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

I hope this should be the results in real too

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

I am assuming the PTI voter base will actually move out for elections this time around. Those of you in Pakistan how many of you know people who actually vote? None of my friends do. Very few family or family friends do. They don't think its worth it. That however is changing. More and more 20 somethings and 30 somethings are actually planning on voting. That is the PTI's vote base. I don't expect to see Egypt or Tunisia style voter turn outs. 40% would be good.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Not really. PPP won GB, and Azad Kashmir seats last year. In by-elections they won Baluchistan seats too. And yes only literate people vote PML(N), MQM, PML(Q), Army Inc. and other parties. This is hieght of ignorance. Or delberate prejudice comments.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Well said, very educated and informed comments :k:

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

I am sorry. PPP did not win GB. The person who won decided to side with the PPP. Something Imran Khan said which was very true in Pakistani politics is that parties lines do not matter much when it comes to certain areas of Pakistan. What matters is who is running for elections. The person is far more powerful than the party.

Okay do tell me how he crushed the Angry Sindhi who wanted to commit treason and wish the destruction of the country?

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

While I don't dispute that there was genuine anger among many Sindhis at BB's death, I think you are overstating/overexaggerating Zardari's role there. I dare say it was a political stunt played very shrewdly by Zardari to come into power

Before making such sweeping statements answer one simple Q: Can Sindh survive without Pakistan? The answer is a big NO and they know it very well. It is because of this opportunistic nonsense, moderates like myself are hesitant to vote for PPP.

Sindh card is no more than political blackmail

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Most of Sindh was angry, 3 days of rioting which I am not justifying in any way at all. Can you imagine what would have happened if Zardari and Bilawal would have stated Pakistan is not good for Sindh? Zardari would have had Sindh all to himself now.

What makes you sure Sindh wont survive without Pakistan? It cannot be in any worse state than it is now that is for sure.

Maybe it was a stunt played by Zardari as he benefitted a lot from it. He could have very easily been a permanent President of Sindh too.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

I wish life was that simple...

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Stop right there. PPP had won enough seats just addition of one seat made them to form government. Are you satisfied now? Never ever think that PPP will lose the future elections without actually elections are being held.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

What that supposed to mean? It reminds me of 70's, when people had similar thoughts for Benallis like you.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

PPP still alive and Bilawal Gaddi Nashini make them rise again LEKH LAO:D:

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

None for APML? :( Schucks!

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

That is assuming that urban sindh aka the engine of sindh would go along with some zardari farce there.

Re: YouGov-Cambridge Poll: 66% for PTI, 9% PML N, 3% PPP

Sindh is NOT bangladesh.
