I would not share it with my extended family, I think I would only share it with my parents. I wouldn't want people telling me what I should be doing with the money, and how much I don't deserve it they would basically make mockery of me. Its not safe to tell the masses.

And I would donate it to charity, give to my parents, and give it to my dada abu Allah bless him he is very generous.

instead of giving them the money, I would rather create a form of investment that will continue to provide for them longer term ..

Once a colleague shared an incident of his ex wife , who worked for a care home, got the shock of her life when she was told that the old lady who passed away left her, her three properties and the collective value of them was around £600,000. It was nothing less then a lottery for her .. anyways over time the couple decided to sell off the property and buy a home for themselves and also decided to give some bits of the money to their families ..

Much later ask them what came of the money and she said the only thing left of the money is the house they own, all the rest of it is gone ! even the family they gave money to is back to square one !

Just imagine someone getting half a million pound and they are back to living a very average lifestyle a few years later .. clearly they didnt manage the money right. hence lesson learnt that money in the form of money will finish off before you know it , money in the form of investment will stay with you as a returning favour for much longer !

If I use Haraam money [proceed from the lottery win] on myself then i SIN and i am responsible for it but why should i entice others by giving them Haraam money to use on themselves and thus force them to SIN for which I will ALSO be responsible and earn MORE sin?

^ I agree with KKF .. Lottery is a much followed concept in the UK .. though I have never liked it and dont even fancy it one bit .. for the reasons that KKF quoted ..

I think the vast majority of Muslims shares the opinion that lotteries are Haraam and therefore their proceeds are too. No argument there.

What about Game Shows like "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" though? You don't really buy a lottery ticket to participate in them. So would those be ok?

this is a good question .. I had heard about game shows like Deal or no Deal are a big no no , coz they are more like gambling ..

But in shows where you win money based on your knowledge .. is that money halal... thats something I would really like to find out more about ..

I would like to know this too. I've always wanted to be on a quiz show like The Chase, just cos I have so much random general knowledge.

If I won a million dollars I would not give money but gift them things I know my family needs or wants.

The only person I would actually give about a hundred thousand to would be my mum. She is so selfless and generous and good with money! My siblings would spend money like water.
I would give my hubby the most amazing gift that I could think of!
My kids the best holiday we've ever had!
I would not donate money (too much gets wasted and people who need it get hardly anything). I would set up about a hundred thousand as my helping out fund. If I ever personally felt that money could help someone out of difficulty, like paying for someone's education or something to that effect, I would take it out if that fund!
Myself I would buy a brazillian 2ct emerald ring.

I would buy a house for my mom.
Give my sister some 15-20% of the money left to pay towards her house loan only. No cash for shopping. Strictly to pay towards house loan so that her mortgage is reduced.
I would give a little cash to my brother, just a little coz unfortunately my brother does not know how to handle money and for a lot of other reasons.

Now from that , what ever is left over, I would then donate some to the charity of my mother's choice.

Now finally if there is any left over, is for me. I would buy some jewelry and invest the rest.

The reason I would do the above is, I work so once all the above factors are met with my salary will be like a bonus for me. Right now I cant use my salary coz I have to pay mortgage , bills save for the future etc etc.

committing sin and promulgating/promoting it is NOT permissible in Islam.

besides, a money earned thru Islamically illegal means is NOT jaa'iz for yourself OR for anyone else for that matter.

I would buy a house for my parents, and pay off my siblings' student loans. I would invest the rest.
