LOL. I think it’s one of those things that are not so embarrassing if you’re ONLY among your own Desi people…because there’s a mutual understanding of the culture and you STILL understand that uncle/aunti didn’t mean it in an inappropriate way.
It would be more of an issue …IF…(now imagine this)…a Gora person was also there with you and Uncle is shaking his head from side-to-side…and wagging his finger in your face…“I remember how naaaaaty you were, Gaia.” See, now isn’t that worse? And there’s always the chance that the Gora person won’t understand what “naaaatttty” is let alone thinking it’s a word from the English language.
Even when looked at from a western perspective…the word has different connotations depending upon the situation/context. If you ONLY have one interpretation of the word…could the problem be your own filthy mind, Gaia? Tsk, tsk.
