How does one start a conversation with someone when there head is down looking at their phone? Does one just walk up to random person and start talking? Is this a domino effect cause all of them were like penguins and doing the same thing? Did they really wanna just talk to me? Did they miss my voice? Did they need me? Was this a cry for help? Do I normally care? Do they think I care? Did they need a hug? Were they trying to impress me?

You’re asking the wrong questions here. Perhaps they’re robots trying gain vital information to help them form a plan to destroy the human race?

As for your colleague, I’d get him/her checked out.
