As for the question posed in this thread....Its hard to say. Even an arranged marriage could "fail" horribly. Why not abandon the family since it was their fault. I hate it when families cut ties with their kids because they made their own decision. It is the kids who have to spend their lives with the person, not the parents/cousins/khandan...etc. Whether you chose the person or not, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...you just give it your best shot and try to make it work. If not learn from it. Concern shouldn't be what the outsides think, but I do think it'd be nice to reconcile with immediate family.
