i assume it is, apparently it was in one of the practice questions.

it's a test about life in the UK (:D) people usually need to pass it to obtain british citizenship i think.

exactly! some of the questions he was reading out to me, i didn't even know the answers to. and i know for sure most of the brits wouldn't really know or care about.

like what percent of population is jewish? UHHH WHAT. 0.5, 0.6, 0.8????

btw, he's from north pole. there was no "nowhere" option.

It's a valid question to ask I think. You should know the brit culture inside and outside if you're going to apply for citizenship.

i don't know. is santa claus part of brit culture? what exactly is brit culture nowadays? do most brits know the percentage of jewish population, or how many people sit in the welsh assembly? it's going a little far from the basic information that any brit would know.

yes, but i'm saying why is it a necessity for people who have solid jobs, pay their own bills, pay tax, communicate well in english and can be seen as any other brit to sit this test and remember these morsels of information whilst others who are lucky enough to have citizenship are not required to sit it and possibly sit on their arse claiming benefits because they can't be bothered to work?

i know that perhaps it's effective for those who aren't wary of the customs of britain, but what about those who have lived here for over a certain time and been pretty much educated here etc.

Sweetif, I agree. Australia has/had a citizenship test where they have questions that are deemed important knowledge for someone to be considered "Australian".

Funny because a poll taken revealed half of anglo aussies could not pass the test.
