I agree with you but what’s the point of preserving clothes only when the kids brought up in a western world don’t even know about their cultural background?
Its already happened. Pakistani fashion is looking more like Arab fashion nowadays. Shalwar kameez is turning into kaftaan/thob. Hijab was almost non-existent in our parents’ generation but now it’s a different story.
Having said that, I don’t think there is anything wrong with Pakistani women incorporating practical “western” clothes into their wardrobes. Shalwar kameez isn’t exactly suitable for all environments.
BTW outside of South Asia “western” clothes are normal everyday clothes, while traditional clothes still have special designations in cultures where they are not prominent anymore. And in Pakistan non-traditional clothes only become “western” when women wear them.
As for the future, seeing how things are going in Pakistan, topi-wala burqa is going to be the new norm.
It’s like any other thing…if you want to preserve it, you will. While others will let go of it. Also, fashion evolves and also repeats itself so I don’t think you should be worried. What I hope is every ethnicity in Pakistan preserves their ethnic dresses because I am seeing more and more people just letting go of it.
