I can’t seem to decide whether to attend York or Ryerson. I doubt that I’d be attending UofT, as it’ll take me another three years to complete an undergrad degree, whereas it’ll take me about 2 years at York and Ryerson.
bbbb, I know people who say it wouldn't make a difference for undergrad.
Mad_Scientist, I'm thinking about UofT as well. However, I've only applied to Scarborough campus. I believe it's a little too late to apply for downtown.
^ again, Scarb. campus v.s. Ryerson's SBM vs. York's Atkinson...
go with a Professional School rather than a general Arts & Sciences Faculty or even a Dept. of Management - so Ryerson it should be in this case as well.
^ A Professional school is where you have specialist faculty areas of research and teaching… e.g. an area for accounting, marketing etc. with their own area heads etc. as opposed to a general Dept. of Business where different faculty may individually pursue their own research interests.
Secondly, the breadth of program concentrations and the availability of resources for graduate studies is also a differentiating factor between a professional school vs. a dept.
Finally, there are also governing bodies for different types of schools… for Business Schools, it is the AACSB - the Associate for Advanced Colleges & Schools of Business… who have annual reviews and quality control schemes that schools need to adhere to in order to be maintain accreditation. In Ontario, there are currently six accredited schools of business - more info here: http://www.aacsb.edu/General/InstLists.asp?lid=3
Hope that clarifies what I meant by “professional schools”.
hey im in the same boat. I just sent my final official transcripts to york(bas) and ryerson(bcomm). Hopefully, I hear from them soon. I am going to pick ryerson because they just built a new business school 9 storey building on the BAY street. Plus, they just launched MBA. Inshallah, i receive admission offer from them.
