Yogurt

How long can plain yogurt be left out of the fridge, before it goes bad and you shouldn’t eat it?

I took out my container of yogurt around 7:30 in the morning, and realized at around 2:00 in the afternoon that I had left it out on the counter. So that’s about 5 and a half hours or so. I opened it, and it still smelled okay, so I put it back in the fridge.

So, what’s the verdict? Can I still use it, or shall I chuck it?

What’s the longest you’ve gone with leaving yogurt out of the fridge? And how about those fruit-bottom yogurt cups…do they last any longer/shorter than plain yogurt?

Re: Yogurt

I can't think of an instance where I have left it out so long...maybe an hour or so at the most if I am cooking 2 or 3 things at the same time which require yogurt.
I think if it still tastes fine it might be ok to use,not sure though.Sorry..!

Re: Yogurt

I probably would have realized earlier, but I was out most of the day running errands, and saw that I had left it out when I came home. :D

Re: Yogurt

If it smells fine it should be fine. Yogurt when gone bad has a bad smell, as well as a slight change in color.

Re: Yogurt

my mom many times leaves yogurt out for a night when making karhi, i suppose it gives the yogurt little tang. So yeah, if it doesn't smell bad, it should be okay.
