Is doing yoga - the whole sha-bang - the way its done in gym classes, prayers and all - halaal? For those of you who don’t know (its okay, I didn’t know either until this morning ), when you begin and end the yoga session, the yoga instructor will ask you to make a prayer for whatever deity you wish or any dedication for anyone you’d like or anything. So, they don’t tell you who to pray to, its up to you. But since yoga is not something the Prophet did, nor did he pray while exercising and stretching his muscles (at least not to my knowledge).
So instead of praying to baghwan or dedicating your yoga session to your pet fluffy, is it okay to dedicate that session to Allah? :halo:

neither did he use a modern toothbrush or an electric jogging machine but they r ok to use rnt they.as for praying there r prayers for wen u r abt to drive, change clothes entering the home etc.so whats the problem? pray to ALLAH keh mujhay sehat ata farmain, after all yoga is a state of mind and breathing, which has medical, emotional and phsical benefits.i fail to see the point ,logic or problem of wat u stated but prolly i am dumb.
:k: agree 100% bro.
sometimes it amazes me about some of the questions guppies ask when the answer wudda been obvious if they thought just for a few seconds.
U have voiced my thoughts exactly.its like gupshup has made people braindead.they have stopped thinking n searching.if they have a query just post it.dont look n search then share keh i had this thought and this is the material so we all learn something.Incidently my name is naveed too.Glad to know someone who noticed the braindead phenomena.
yoga halal or haram?
My dear freind may be it depends on which position and with whom you are talking about. Doing yoga among women is permissible but men in between would be haram.
Why you all missed an important point. Is it a permissible act to pray to Allah, in an environment which simulates a prayer hall (for part of the excercise) and in which every body is remembering their own religious lord, be them christians, hindus etc etc. ???
^ I 'Presume' the instructor isn't expecting from you to do the Sajdah or offer the whole Namaaz in the exercise room. Prayer part could be just limited to Dua or something.. nope? and i guess you know Dau can be made in any state ..at any position.. among any kind of people...nope?
Before and after the yoga class, usually the teacher asks you to silently dedicate your practice to the suffering and needy. After yoga the mind is peaceful and steady and the thought-waves are intense (so my teacher told me).
There are different levels of yoga. The beginner level you can concentrate on any one thing. It could be the God, the representation of God (such as the arabic word Allah and on). It is considered acceptable to do so (by Muslim Yoga of Pakistan organization - don't recally exact name).
At higher level, their system depends on chakra / chi / ki (basically energy following in your body). You can take energy from the sun as a prime source (recharge yourself).
Some people feel that it kinda goes into praying / depending on sun for energy. Where as Muslim should ONLY be asking Allah for help. At this point most muslim feel that it is unacceptable - but to everone their own.
The details of their systems are not shared easily so I doubt you will get knowledgful guidance from Mullah
