lol@the train comment! personally I don't mind my close friends regardless the race calling me Paki as they r close to me n we r frank enuff to call each other by names as a joke. But I do find it very offensive if sumone just called me a "paki" from outa no where, n i think ppl who call u that don't mean to say it in a friendly way as it is considered as a derogatory term in the uk.
I think "classifying" a people by certain words can be very offensive to others. We are all people and all have names and should be given the respect by using our names. Let's use words such as "my brother or my sister" instead of paki, desi, nigga, and so on. At least with using "my brother or my sister" we are showing some love, which I think all the world needs to do, show respect, love, and compassion for others. From a personal experience, my childred are called "half-breeds", this is very upsetting to them and hurts their feelings because they are wondering why they are so different and called these names as if they were animals or something. But I assure them that only ignorant people use terms like that because evidently those people think that their race is more superior than others. Well, lets use original names, or my brother or sister.....hmmm, sounds great to me.
Yesterday, over in the Khail Khilari forum, a member again took exception at the word “Pakis”, where as the whole article was quite supportive of Pakistan.
Makes me wonder, if it is just a hang-up and a zid rather than any principled stand?
Pakistani is a long word, and Paki is a short-form. Just like many Americans are referred to as Yankees and British folks are called Brits. Nothing offensive about them, its just more convenient and quick to say.
As far as intent goes, an arab is capable of using a perfectly innocent word like “Rafeeq” to make you feel like a substandard human being. Now that is insulting.
Sarah, Mr. Xtreme is not a moderator in TCR. Here he is just a participant like everyone else. And his words speak for him, just like every one else's.
Pristine, I think you were referring to my post in Khail Khilari forum so I will try to clarify my reply.
There are a lot of reasons why I responded to that particular post and not every single post that uses this word. I've read a lot of articles by the author of the article posted in Khail Khilari. The guy's name is Sanjay Jha and most of his articles tend to berate Pakistani players for no reason. So, I guess he had to say something to put down the Pakistanis in order to balance out the good stuff he'd written about us. Can you explain to me if he could not have written "Lets be fair to the Pakistanis, ICC?" just as easily?
For your question about this thing being a ZID or a principled stand, I don't like this term when used by anybody anywhere. I don't like to go around calling my black friends Niggers, white friends Rednecks or Yankees, Hindu friends Banyas and so on......
So, I naturally would rather not be called a Paki.
The reason why I don't run around Gupshup trying to respond to everyone's post that has this word in it is simple. I have seen a lot of Pakistanis calling each other Pakis and Pakistan "Pakiland" but if you're not going to have respect for yourself, then I don't think it is my responbility to go around and tell people to do otherwise.
For some reason though I really don't mind Pakistani players being referred to as Pak players.
America is not Britain. It is not derogatory
here. In time Paki won't be a negative. Yanks
don't have the relationship to you that the
English do. As your standing in the world
continues to improve, the more respect the
word may have.

For Sarah,
It doesn't matter if he is a mod or not,
Mod is a mod, and he/she should follow the rules in all sections, no matter which section he belongs to!
but, coming to your point of being nice! the answer is he is Mod, that's why he is so nice, if it was me , you must not expect any nice words. That is what you should expect from a True Pakistani?
Should we encourage Hizbul of being shame in calling Pakistani? Although we are proud that people like him are not Pakistani!
and Sarah, you are a good addition in here, but I would request you not to waist time in just finding negative comments, you can learn more here about our culture and Islam,
but don't mix Pakistan n Pakistani, and Islam n Muslim!
Thanks.
Shrirn,
pls don't make lame excuses! thanks to you too.
