Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

I was having discussion with a young cousin who is living in UK. Hes around 18 and living alone there.
He was making confession of the mistakes he has been doing. When He told me he have had pork many times. I was shocked, but his question made me speechless when he asked that our people drink a lot, take drugs. Do the zan’na, everything is haram then why ONLY pork is taken as HARAAM & disgusting thing.
Taking Liquor is so common in Paki society too so is having sex before marriage.

I was speechless on this. Anyone has answers? :konfused:

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

No to alcohol and No to pork. Period.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

People avoid pork because they develop a certain disgust toward the animal while growing up. In fact, people use it as a word of abuse too. It's found in dirty environments and most people would agree that it's not pleasant to look at other. Also, avoiding pork is easy because there are so many alternatives out there that you don't miss it.

Basically, it's a matter of convenience. And yes, society is full of hypocrites.

Like Cherryblossom said, no to alcohol, no to pork, no to extramarital sex. No to anything haram. And if you don't do that, then you shouldn't judge others to be 'worse' than you- at least not verbally if you can't help your thoughts.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

That isn't true at all. Yes, the elites in Pakistan have been doing it all along in Pakistan, and now certain wannabes are all about drugs and alcohol but this is again a small fraction of a vocal degenerate wannabe minority in Pakistan that'd find no shame on putting it all on youtube or facebook. I think we should be a little careful in labeling our entire Pakistan society like this, because we tend to set our own persona and reputes as a society.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

No to Alcohol and No to Pork. Yes to Sex. That's all.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Taking Liquor is NOT common in Pakistani society. AS spoke said, elites might be doing this but then they are only 2% of all Pakistanis.

I am not sure where you cousin coming from but MOST of the Pakistanis still think drinking and Zana are also harm in addition to pork but then people try to reason anything to justify themselves.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

I think what her cousin is referring to is the Pakistani society that is living abroad in UK, US and Canada. I know for a fact that a lot of muslim people in Canada indulge in drinking. That being said the majority still avoids it. It also depends on the social circle you have. If you are a person that drinks then you tend to surround yourself with the same kind of crowd and you tend to think that every other muslim is doing the same thing.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Yar its no no to everything which is strictly prohibited. Now the first thing to refrain from, is to check wut others are doing and wut not, and determining one's own actions on the base of that.
Even if 90% of muslims start eating pork and having alcohal, that doesnt change the fact. But yes, we should have a strong belief on wut we are doing and wut not.
I think you should try your best to convince your coousin from not eating pork with strong reasoning. And I'm sure you'll get both scientific and religious reasons for that very easily.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Well...Drinking and Extra-marital sex is not only prevalent in 2% elite society........it is also prevalent in rural/eneducated masses.........most of us have lived in middle class educated urban families and don't see it because we don't get in 'the wrong crowd'..........but if u have gone around a bit.......its not so rare as it seems.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

I disagree on 2%, just when i was taking my flight back to PK last month, all 80% of the Pakistanis on flight kept on asking for wine throughout the flight, especially the guy next to me was like crazy, i can;t remember he stopped drinking in those 5-6 hours.

Plus most people i get to know here in defence talk about drinking and sex. even when i went on a bus tour with some friends and a group of people they all talked about alcohol and sex openly.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

I was more talking about the People living in Pakistan and not NRPs

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Just because you are indulge in one sin does not justify that you should get into another sin. I eat pork because I also drink alcohol is a baseless reasoning in my opinion. If you can protect yourself from one, do so.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

happens to me all the times. Somehow the person sitting next to me decide to be tun than to talk to me .. :(

hum aap ke dukh main barabar ke shareek hain holy.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

What is NRP?

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Non Resident Pakistanis

and if there was no such term, now there is :D

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

Lol.... that guy tried to talk to me, I usually do talk with people sitting next to me on flight but he was so tun that his whole body was shaking, so i decided to ignore him.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

No, I wasn;t talking about NRPs. people i know in defence aren;t NRPs, people i met on the bus tour aren't NRPs, they're all students from a uni i won;t name here.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

^you should name the univrstity....so that others can be 'cautious' when around people from the said univeristy

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?

No, it won;t help, i hear people talking about other Unis having bad reputation, i guess it;s everywhere. it's just " bud se budnaam bura".

It's said to be a reputable Uni in Pakistan.

Re: Yes to Alcohol, no to Pork?
