**Yemeni security forces have arrested 11 men suspected of links to al-Qaeda in a house raid in the capital Sanaa.**In a statement, Yemen’s interior ministry said that the men were arrested while meeting in the family home of one of the suspects.
The father of one of the suspects was killed when he reportedly opened fire on police during the raid.
Since December, the Yemeni authorities have stepped up its crack down on suspected al-Qaeda members.
The US believes that al-Qaeda and affiliated groups are gaining a foothold in Yemen. It has reportedly supplied Yemen with intelligence and other support in its security operations.
Last year groups allied to al-Qaeda based in Yemen and Saudi Arabia merged to become al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, (AQAP). The group are believed to be behind a failed attempt to blow up a US aeroplane on Christmas Day.
In February AQAP deputy leader, Said al-Shihri, called on Muslims in the region to wage holy war against the US and its allies.
