It was a heck of a turbulent year for Pakistan. A lot many things happening domestically and internationally.
I see two major accomplishments:
Its just second time that a Pakistani got a Nobel prize.. and that also for peace. Definitely a proud moment for every Pakistani, ofcourse for those who recognize it
After a terrible tragedy, all Pakistanis no matter who they are, are finally united against terrorists. After a looooooooonng delay they are able to identify taliban as the terrorists and the enemy to peace. I hope this unity sustains.
Politically: It was very volatile year. All sorts of dharnas and everything happened that kept everyone engrossed for almost 3 months.
The govt was really in a situation as it could go any moment.
But last day of the year, NS is still the PM and PML(N) still in power.
Other domestic issues: For the average citizen, power shortages, inflation, unemployment and violent insecurity challenged. Its still a long way to go.
Not only that but also there were huge losses due to floods in Punjab.
Economy: From 2013 to 2014 the economic situation is slightly better but I’d leave other economic gurus to comment better
Insecurity: From Khi airport attack to Army public school attack at Peshawar, it was another bad year for Pakistan. I hope and pray that 2015 will be better while we eliminate the terrorists.
Internationally: Pak faced new challenges with Modi coming in neighbor India and a change of leadership in Afghanistan as well. Chinese leader’s visit was cancelled due to dharna and was a blow but later NS visited china so it got made up. No major accomplishment is UN summit this year for the country.
What else you think Pakistan lost or achieved during 2014?
Re: Year 2014 for Pakistan..... how do you see it?
in my point of view, the big change of 2014 is that Pakistan has finally - after over a decade of balking for several reasons - taken action against taliban with the zarb e azab op., and will have to keep at this after the peshawar incident. there is no room for any more talks, pacts, etc. in the next one year. also reinforcing this move is the nascent friendliness with afghanistan, which once again leaves zero room for taliban pampering. the lines have been drawn and have never been clearer. and this is a huge change for everyone involved.
