YALLLAH YALLAH.

ok so i have been reading a vast majority of guppies here who keep a negative standpoint about saudi arabia. So the question that comes to my mind is have the half dozen of you even been to saudi to make up that perception? So do u care to explain whats sooo odd that makes you believe as such .

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

^ Can you be specific?

Who said what and when about dear KSA?

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

umm general observation , the crowd kind of hates ksa.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

some people always hate some places. why bother?

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

My dad used to work for the royal family in the 80s (but we stayed in the UK) and the stories he told were awful.. We also know quite a few families who lived over there but are now back in London.. There's the general stuff like woman not being allowed to drive (but it's somehow ok to be in a taxi with an unknown male driver lol), her having to take 'permission' to marry a non-Saudi etc. as well as the fact that the lighter ur skin colour is the better u get treated, the more u get paid..

I know somone is going to come back with the argument that 'this happens everywhere' but nowhere does it happen more than there (and Kuwait) and besides most other foreign governments don't endorse or encourage this BS.. For a country that is supposed to be the centre point of Islam it's disgusting the way they treat people..

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

Generalizations and stereotyping is human nature. There are some good and some bad everywhere so why bother ?

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

What about when there's a lot more bad than good?

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

For example ?

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

My perception of Saudi as I been there once

  • Facility of Haj, Umrah & Haram is near by
  • Great place to make good money
  • Good to live if you like to stay indoors
  • Good enough for studies up till high school

My reservations

  • Saudi attitude towards non-saudiz
  • Too hot
  • Less freedom

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

my dad served with Pak Army contingent in late 70s around Mecca. That's my first hand experience.

I think you misunderstand the logic of people, nobody hates Saudia we just can't because of the most holiest places. I personally hate Saudi government, their lavish expenditures, whatever they do with oil money and then human rights... it's just despicable.

I would like to quote Mustansir Hussain Tarrar travelogue (Gaar-e-Hira Mein ik Raat) -

"mein ney poora jeddha chaan maraa lekin mujey ik bi aesi bookshop nahi mili jahan pey 50 sey zaida books hoon, jitni poorey jeddah mein books hain sahid itni sirf sang-e-meel bookstore Lahore mein hoon".

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

I’ve been to Saudia and I have mixed feelings about them. For a backward nation like Pakistanis, we have a lot to learn from Saudis in terms of discipline. Women have a lot of respect there. Covered or uncovered, women are never looked at like  there.
People are very civilized on roads, they know how to stand in ques. I never saw traffic police in any city except on highways. There is so much uniformity that all houses in one neighborhood will have same color and all look like same. there is no difference in the dress of servants and masters. Sometimes, it gets difficult to guess who’s the chauffeur and the owner of the car :hehe: Both look the same.

On the negative side, Saudis are natural religious extremists. Their molvis are worst. If you are caught roaming around during namaz time, they will take you with them and probably do your tind.
If you are caught drinking with your left hand, I was told, something un-imaginable will be done to me.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

Haha at left hand bit. I was watching some hajj video and all of a sudden a man with a trimme beard was drinking water with his left hand, the person recording then said "what a disgusting majoosi, Rafidhi.." etc etc.

I Don't have an issue with Saudi Arabia, i have an issue with the disgusting aal-e-saud, the Yazids of today

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

meh. desis hate everyone, even desis themselves. :phati:

There’s good and bad everywhere, and I’m glad most posters have acknowledged this.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

Its not Saudi Arabia, its Saudis that some people (not me) dont like too much. Most of it is from how they behave once they are outside KSA, especially when they are living in the west.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

I have nothing against the Hejaz but i have a lot against the Saudi status Quo.

As for the comman Arab and I as long as he is not extremist Wahabi or does not impose his ideology on me or anyone else without reason then fine i'll tag along like the rest of us... but if he crosses my very obvious Religous or Moral line then in my phyche he is the same as any other opponent.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

my opinion is based on having spent a significant part of my childhood there. that place is a hellhole (hopefully the trigger-happy mod sahiba will take some pills and stay calm this time). it is one of the last few places in the world where racism is almost institutionalized. I know every Pakistani feels the need to carry the burden of the unicorn known as the ummah on his/her shoulders. but go live there... and get used to being called rafeeq. that's right... they actually have a derogatory word invented for your kind... yes you... their supposed brothers in Islam. I'm not even going to get into what they do to their maids, etc. there have been plenty of articles posted. there was one recent incident where a Saudi hammered nails into the skull, knees, elbows, etc of his Sri Lankan maid. BBC did an extensive story on the abuse of maids in Arab countries. happens so often that it seems like a part of their culture. we Pakistani ppl have a lot to work on ourselves. but if there is a nation that makes me feel good about us, it is the Saudis.

I've always heard that the Arabs were some of the worst ppl on the planet back in the day and hence, Islam was revealed unto them. well if that was the reasoning, then perhaps Islam needs to be revealed all over to them.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

I honestly have not seen many people who hold a good opinion of Saudis.

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

I was in KSA for 15 years. Had a Great Airline Job with Swissair and had 1st class facilities.

Its a mixed society of Good and Bad like of any other region. Mostly Good though. You do get the taste of true Islamic values for "welfare of People" "Security of Citizens" "Hospitality" "Islamic Teachings and Universities very renowned"

Yes! People in Pakistan don't like Saudis because Pakistanis have some kind of an idiotic rift with 'Wahabis' Than again Pakistani people have no authority over what they want to follow and how they want to follow, its an "Open season" for all kind of deeni wannabis in Pakistan.

Never was this Jahilana sooch of Pakistani was more prevailant than it is now ! Go Figure

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

Your ^ "Generalization" is so funny that I forgot to laugh so excuse me if I don't chuckle on your jokes. Yah Rafeeq !!! lol

Re: YALLLAH YALLAH.

From all my Saudi/Arab friends ( who lived there until college), it sounds like a scary place to live.
