Yakhdaan and Farghal

What is Yakhdaan? Seems Urdu for Fridge, but it can’t be fridge / freezer.

Also anyone knows what was Farghal in household items?

i think the other word for it is uGhaaldaan [spit pit] because yaKh means something bad like your own spit.

FarGhaal is similar thing for gargling/rinsing mouth . the word word for this is perhaps **Silipchii*.

I'm not sure. Read this in a paragragh of urdu short story, where writer just wanted to mention possessions of a rich person.

Google says 'Yakhdan' are two different place of same name in Iran and Afghanistan. Now, city names can't be like ugaal-daan. what do you say?

I think ke aap phir phainkaa phaankee pe utar aayain hain. It’s not yakh, but yuk that means something bad - and that is an English word.

Yukh clearly means cold or frigid.

O bhai wo yuk kerte hain mounh bana ke . that is an English word..

and even if someone says yukh, it must be an expression, not a word.

achcha ji, agar aap ke yahaan yukh kisi buri cheez ka naam hai, tub yukhni tou bohut hee buri cheez ka naam hogaa.

vaise, puraane zamaanoN meN, ba-alfaaz-e-digar aapke zamaane meN :hehe:, backpack to huaa nahiiN karte the to aapkaa basta kaisaa huaa kartaa thaa? kahiiN thaila/jhola to nahiiN iste’maal kiyaa karte the? :hmmm:

I think TLK is right. Yukh / Yuk is English word.. I haven’t heard some using it in Urdu (writing / speaking) in the sense it is used in English

i've heard ladies in India a million times making face and saying "yaKh"...especially when they are looking at a fabric in a store or at home.

any Urdu dictionary containing Yakh in this sense. As far as ladies expressing their disgust with 'yukh' in rural India, many ladies did use words like gilaas, pilate as well :)

the words you have mentioned are part of Urdu vocab now...the English slang "yuck" belong to another genre and was never part of Urdu language or among people speaking Urdu.

I think ugaaldaan or Yakhdaan are two different things. Icebox is the possible answer.

i'm inclined to agree to that...vo foam waalaa Dibba jis meN ice Daal ke ashyaa~ rakhte haiN.

to FarGhaal kaa kia banaa? is lafz kaa koii sidd-e-baab huaa? kisii cheez par kpii ittefaaq huaa? is it possible that it's SILIPCHI [portable wash basin]?
