Often used to symbolise strength/power/glory. qarunun (pl. qurana) - mate, comrade, intimate companion. muqarranin - bound together. muqrinina - capable of subduing. muqtarinin - those formed in serried ranks, accompanying ones.

Yes I messed that up typing quickly. But please check your arabic as well. Qarn cannot mean nation. It can mean "horn" or "century~hundred years"

Qarnain = plural of qarn = horns / centuries - Most popular opinion in this case is horns. Sorry but Qarn does not mean nation. Please check your "QAMOOS".
And yes he is should be from 500 BC or earlier. And the ages then were in the hundreds of years to the extent of thousands. Prophet Ibrahim AS is considered the father of the 3 divine religions present today. Since it is from his progeny of Prophet Ishaq that countless prophets came. Untill Prophet Esa AS was sent. Similary from Ismael AS came Rasul Allah SAW. So Prophet Ibrahim needs to be in the 500 BC + era.
Plus what I stated above is not from my stomach. Rather reputed scholars of Sunnah have come up with these conclusions. Still Allah sWT knows best. It could be wrong.
